First of all, if you're looking at a Segway tour of a city, you have to split apart the experience of being on a Segway from the actual tour. We had been on one before in Copenhagen and fell in love with both the experience of being on a Segway, and also the tour. So that was our context for taking the tour in Chicago...
A second time on a Segway was almost as enjoyable as the first. It's like riding a bike--you DO remember it. But it is not the same euphoric experience the second time around. So for us today the SEGWAY driving/riding experience was more like a 9/10 instead of 10/10--again this is only regarding the physical experience of being on a Segway.
That said, the Chicago routing and tour was totally super. One tidbit: there is an airport shut down ten years ago that is now a park...only the occasional runner out there, and it is not far off of 1km from Soldier Field. Nobody out there except us--wonderful views of the lake and city. So there are lots of opportunities to whizz around places where nobody goes.
We had the fortune to be with Russell, who is a down-to-earth gentleman, who knows LOTS about the city (if you ask). If we had one comment about the trip (which we rated as 5 so it was great) it was advertised as an architectural tour. Sorry Segway guys that are going to read this, but it is not an archtectural tour in the way that one would expect. For people in the future booking, if you go, and DO want info, you simply need to ask as the info is brought forward passively. And Russell gave it! Many thanks.
On the Segway Copenhagen expereince we had, the helmets were outfitted with headphones and the leader gave a full commentray while we were driving/riding. In Chicago it is bike helmets, no comments. That said, Russell (again) was super and amusing (yes, some of the jokes are not new...neither are we, but both work!).
Thanks Russell, and you have inspired us to try this in another city at some time in the future!!
