“Cabin paridise!”

We visited the River Dance Lodge on our honeymoon! The cabin we were in was in the upper most corner of the property, and were told it was the most private (the cabin name is eluding me)... But, it was wonderful. During our three day stay, we also booked a couple's massages in our cabin, reccomended by the owners. It was a such treat. We also took daily walks down to the Clearwater river each day. It was the perfect spot for fly-fishing! We also enjoyed our own hottub, that overlooked the valley. We very much are looking forward to returning, and highly recommend the Lodge.

We are so happy you enjoyed your stay! The cabin you were in is called the Naturalist and does command such a beautiful view of the Clearwater River. Glad the massage was great and we do hope to see you next year! Many thanks.

“Marketing-Expectation gap”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

Disappointed with the difference between Internet marketing and reality. Website makes me expect something like Sun Mountain Lodge in Winthrop; should have realized this with the lack of photos of the lodge. Whoever does their webpage is a master at marketing. River Dance Lodge itself is not a destination; it's a place to stay while you're doing whatever you do: a camp for hunters and fishermen, a bed for the weary hiker. Bring your own cooking and food or eat out in the one available restaurant--no kitchen, virtually, in the cabins. The restaurant was expensive but pretty good actually.

So sorry that you had expectations we did not meet. Please call us directly if you have some specific changes you'd suggest regarding our web presentation as we certainly do want to portray an accurate picture of what we offer. We certainly don't claim to have the amenities that Sun Mountain has such as a spa, multiple conference rooms nor a swimming pool. We are a much smaller, family-operated resort and people come to River Dance Lodge to enjoy the outdoors and the many activities we offer such as guided rafting trips, miles of mountain bike trails, incredible fly fishing on the Lochsa river and our proximity to the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness area. We do appreciate your feedback.

“Amazing Place for Getaways!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2011

This was our fourth annual Girls Retreat at the River Dance Lodge! You can't ask for a better place to relax...spending evenings relaxing in your own private hot tub while staring at the stars. The cabin is always well stocked with all the essentials for a comfortable stay. The view of the Clearwater River from the beautiful front porch of our cabin can't be beat. Enjoy making smores around the campfire and have the best night's sleep ever in the comfortable beds. The staff bent over backwards to make sure we had everything we needed to make our retreat special. Thank you!

Room Tip: If you are 2-4 people the small cabins are great, if you have 5-8 choose the three bedroom cabins.

“The very best adventure possible”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2011

I have stayed in many lodges and white water rafted with the best, I have to say River Dance was the best I have ever experienced, the staff was very attentive, took very good care of us thru the whole stay, nothing was ever too much to ask, the food would compete with any 4 star place I have eaten, they have a very good selection of great wines at a reasonable price, and micro brews !! The cabin's are spacious, great linens, very clean and comfortable. The river was also great, again the staff went above and beyond our expectations. We floated one day and the guys fished the rest of the time and with the helpful hints from the guides they caught some nice fish. Will return again for sure, this place is the best of the best. A must is the huckleberry pie with ice creme...I would highly recommend. We arrived in late August, the weather was hot as you would expect in the summer, at night we opened the windows and enjoyed a wonderful cool night breeze. We will be back soon, again i can't say enough great things about River Dance Lodge, it is the best starting at the inquiry of reservations all the way thru to check out, they did everything top notch.

“Disappointed for what we paid!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2011

I found this lodge on the internet and booked an aniversary getaway for my husband and I. We were greeted in 100+ degree heat with "You are to early and we have no water!" We arrived about 15 min before check in according to the website. It indicated that if you arrive early and your cabin is not ready you can have lunch or a cold drink in the cafe. Not! The cafe is not open for lunch or to provide a cool waiting area. Upon checking in the cabin it was so blasted hot you could not breathe. There is no air conditioning! The only seating, other than a table and hard chairs, was a filthy futon. I realize it's in the wilderness, but it was dirty and there were cobwebs all over. We had to go down the street to Ryan's Wilderness cafe to eat and wait for the water to be on. (A great little place!) We left and asked for the cabin to be cleaned and for a sheet to put over the futon so we could sit down. We got the sheet, but no cleaning. The food was ok and dinners all seemed over-cooked, the salads were great. The bed was hard! The cafe is definitely old and showing much use. At best, it could use some cleaning. The grounds are minimally taken care of. The cabins are newer and nice in structure, but with no air and no window coverings on the west facing side we spent most of the late afternoons in our car in the air conditioning. There are fans, but it was not cool by any means. We stayed 3 nights, as I booked the all inclusive, and only one night was spared from the heat. The staff were nice, however, the guides were very young and not highly experienced as the information is presented. They did do their best to answer questions and help when asked. Our second day was spent on the river, a gentle float which I was aware of due to the season, but returned in the heat of the day to have the water off again due to a leak they were still fixing. Although the staff apologized for the water (and we realized it was not their fault), there was nothing done to go the little extra mile you would hope for based on what we had paid and the extreme heat. I even suggested a free beer with dinner, but nope that was not possible. The third day was a hike at Canyon Creek which spared us from most of the heat and Landon did his best and was a nice young man. Our lunch was sandwiches made with mayo that had been in his backpack, not refrigerated, for a minimum of 3+ hours. Yuk! The rivers and surrounding areas are beautiful. At check out there was still no comp even offered for the water being off, at times, for 2 days. My expectations for the cost of this trip were definitely not met. Do you research on what you are expecting.

Thank you for your comments. I was glad I telephoned you to learn more about exactly what your disappointments were. We will do our best to correct those within our power and improve our guest service, as that is always our goal. It's unfortunate that during your stay we had a broken water pipe (our first ever) and no doubt that was stressful for our staff. We do disclose that we don't have air conditioning on our website, so I'm sorry that was a surprise and that we had such unusually hot weather. As we discussed, I do hope you'll join us in the spring when it's cooler and you can also do a thrilling whitewater rafting trip on the Lochsa. Many thanks - Peter G.
