I was looking for a way to celebrate our 13th anniversary and had always thought it would be fun to stay at a nice hotel in town. The anniversary inn came to mind and they even had a 40% off deal for the summer so I was excited about the prospects. I went down in the afternoon to have a tour of the rooms. The lady giving the tours was very pleasant and helpful. I found the rooms to be dark and the furnishings sparse. The murals on the walls were nice and the themes were interesting but I noticed all of the rooms had 10 year old projection TVs and many rooms seemed a little old and run down. Since my anniversary was in two days the rooms I really wanted were reserved already. But of the 30-40 rooms that are available less than 10 were reserved 2 days in advance even with the 40% off summer special. That should have tipped me off but it didn't so I went ahead and settled on a room that I thought would work. As I was making my reservation, the woman at the front desk was reading me ... That should have tipped me off but it didn't so I went ahead and settled on a room that I thought would work. As I was making my reservation, the woman at the front desk was reading me all these disclaimers that I found strange but didn't think too much about because I was excited to treat my wife to a nice evening (this should have tipped me off as well). I gave my credit card and was told there was a $50 non-refundable deposit. I was okay with that. After I made the reservation, I decided to look around some more since I wasn't entirely happy with what I had reserved at anniversary inn. As I was researching other options I came upon Hotel 43. It had newer furnishings, beautiful 2 room suites, comfortable king size beds, jacuzzi tub and seemed cleaner and brighter to me all for the same regular price and that turned out to be what I wanted to do instead. The next day I called anniversary inn less than 24 hours later expecting to lose my $50 deposit. They informed me that since I was cancelling less than 72 hours before my reservation that I would be charged for the full cost of the room. I told them that I had made the original reservation less than 72 hours in advance but that didn't matter to them. They were unwilling to accomodate me. In the end, they took my money and I had a fabulous time at Hotel 43. The idea of an anniversary inn is a good one, but the reality of going to a hotel for the sole purpose of celebrating your anniversary (and everyone there knowing it) is somewhat creepy. Going to a nice plush hotel with top notch customer service, free valet parking, awesome room service with a delicious breakfast made our stay at Hotel 43 a memorable one and one I would highly recommend over the Anniversary Inn if you're going to splurge on your anniversary anyway.
