“Comfortable resort, being upgraded”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2009

The Beach Club is located near the southern end of St. Augustine Beach, on the way to Crescent Beach five miles (8 km) farther south. Restaurants and grocery stores are within walking distance, but a car is needed for larger shopping centres.

As previous reviewers have pointed out, the furnishings are dated, but the upside is that all rooms are being renovated with new furniture, cabinets and plumbing, including marble countertops in kitchen and bathroom. We had a peek at the new décor, and were impressed. We were told the refit should be completed by the end of 2009. Despite the construction, the resort was quiet because it was low season and many rooms were unoccupied.

Our one-bedroom unit (401) was located in a projecting wing of the south building that gave us a good view of the beach to the east, though not the 180 degree view afforded by the two-bedroom units. The rooms are large and comfortable, and the kitchen was well equipped (although as Canadians, we would have appreciated a teapot). The unit was spotlessly clean. One of the two TV sets would not work, and the efficient maintenance staff quickly replaced it with a new one. We were divided in our opinion of the king-size bed: one thought it was too soft, the other found it just right.

We stayed during a cold snap in the first week of February, so were unable to spend much time on the lovely beach that conveniently fronts the resort. The outdoor pool was a bit chilly at this time of year, but the adjacent Tennis Club has an indoor pool (and exercise room) to which guests have free access.

The front desk staff was unfailingly cheerful, courteous and helpful. We particularly appreciated the free shuttle service from the resort to St. Augustine, available when you buy a ticket ($21) for the Red Train, one of two open-air trolley services that circulate through the downtown historic area, dropping off and picking up passengers along the way.

Besides renting rooms, this resort is affiliated with the two big timeshare exchange companies, RCI and Interval International. We travelled on an RCI exchange. With the renovations, we hope the resort, currently an RCI Silver Crown hotel, will regain its previous Gold Crown rating. It deserves it.

“Beach Club is old and tired”

The location is great with the Atalntic Ocean just short walk from the property. The rooms are dated and cannot keep up with the nicer properties that I have stayed in with RCI. We had cockroaches in our room and I told the front desk. Their response was that the palmetto bugs and ants come out when it rains and that they were in the process of spraying. The internet was not working properly either and access was not only very slow but the websites kept flashing like a strobe light.
Our room was small and moderately clean. Pool noise continues loudly until 10:30 at night. We have small chidren and luckily they slept through it. I really liked the ocean front location, but overall I would rate this property as 2/5.

“Best Kept Secret on the Beach in St. Augustine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 April 2008

We did a timeshare exchange for a week in Feb 2008. Stayed in a 2-bdrm 2-bath on the 3rd floor. All 2-bdrm units are located at the end of the building, overlooking the ocean AND the pool! They have 8 2-bdrm units and all else are 1-bdrm. The 2-bdrm has a gorgeous balcony overlooking the ocean and a long balcony on the side which is accesible from the main entrance hall, and both bdrms. Unit had 3 TV's. The ocean can be viewed from the side balconies of the 1-bdrm units, also. Units offer WIFI for a cost of $15 per week.

People at the front desk were a GEM! They were more then happy to print out our boarding passes for our flight home the next day.

Publix and WinnDixie are a 2-minute car ride away and historic St. Augustine is 7 minutes away by car.

Laundry machines are available and very inexpensive. Great book exchange is available. They had daily activities going on for children but not traveling with any, we never attended those other than we did check out the canvas painting activities one day which many adults were involved in.

There are gas grills down by the pool which was a nice touch.

Our unit was clean as a whistle and extremely spacious. Felt like a true home. Two-bdrm unit has a long entrance hall with the living room/kitchen area on the left and the bedrooms and washrooms to the right of the hall. Makes each area extremely private. Beds were most comfortable!

We have already booked to go back in August for another week and hope to return there in February, 2009.

End of the street, which is 2 blocks to the highway, is a GREAT FL Keys type restaurant/bar which has nightly entertainment. The front desk will give you a 10% discount card to use at the restaurant.

One thing I found odd was that there was no dining room table in the 2-bdrm unit. There were only two stools at the kitchen counter to eat. There were dishes for 6. If a family wanted to have a sit down meal, there is no dining room table to sit around.

“Great, look forward to returning”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2008

We stayed at the resort twice 1st time in July 07 and had a great time. Unit was very clean, beds were extremely comfortable, front desk was helpful. Pool area was amazing, large oceanfront pool, plenty of chairs and beach chairs, umbrellas, and floats were provided for beach usage. Resort also is connected with St Augustine Tennis Club next door offering 10 tennis courts, indoor pool and another outdoor pool for guest usage. Rode bikes on the beach every morning, swam in the ocean every day, then relaxed near the pool late afternoon.
Our second visit was Thanksgiving week we really enjoyed the
indoor pool on this visit. Along with all the festivities happening
in the historic village for the holidays. We even went ice skating outside at the new Beach pavilion set up for the holiday season.
Staying on the beach we were only about 10 min from the historic city so we spent lots of time touring all the sites as well.
We will definitely return and hopefully be able to stay at this resort again.

  • Liked — location, enjoyed beach area yet only min. to the historic district touring
  • Disliked — could have a little bigger patio table on patio...

“Nice Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2007

Great place to stay. Room overlooked the pool and Atlantic. Room very dated but clean and large. Plenty of closet space. Once of the best beds I've ever slept on. Not a bad drive to downtown. Would definitely stay again.
