“BUYER BEWARE”

There are hidden fees included in spa charges. Friend and I booked a repeat visit for massages. Unfortunately we didn't put the date in our calendar and we missed it. NOTE they do not call out to confirm appts which is a standard practice for other facilities. Although they don't call out to remind you of an appointment they do call to tell you it was missed and you are being charged. At that point they began to chastise me for not calling them, this of course while they are telling me they are going to charge me for the service anyway.

We agreed to pay for the missed service; however, because we were repeat customers we should have been entitled to a 20% discount; we wanted to pay what we thought we would have paid if we arrived. they said no discount if you don't show you pay full price

Also they tack on additional ~15% service fee which website and brochures at the hotel say represents access to hotel and other spa services. since we weren't there we didn't feel we should have to pay for services we weren't taking advantage of According to clerk at the spa, that fee is not a fee for using their hotel/spa extras but is a way to tip your specialist who is providing the service - no where is that stated. However, at the end of any service the individual who is providing the massage or whatever hands you an envelope for a tip - so either they are getting tipped twice or the spa is keeping some of the tip for themselves, either way it's misleading. They would not take this fee off either, even though as no shows we were not there taking advantage of anything.

Again during the conversation of discussing what fees I felt I should be responsible for and what I should not be, again I was chastised for not cancelling and questioning their charges.

“A few small changes and this is a 5 star hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

I stayed here for one night and wished it would have been longer. My favorite part of the resort was how relaxed I felt there. The room was nice, comfortably decorated and I opted for a room with a patio. The staff was very nice and I would return here again. They have a great pool and the gym allows you to take classes complimentary. I debated about taking the water aerobics class but it was packed.
On the downside, the carpeting needed replaced in the hallways and some of the walls were had marks on them. I also found the bed to be too hard.
For a relaxing trip to the Tampa area, this is a relaxing and lovely option.

“Beautiful Weekend!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

I can not say enough about our experience at the Safety Harbor Spa. We spent time by the pool and it was like a tropical paradise! The Bloody Mary's were exception from the tiki bar and the poolside lunch was delicious. Could not have had a better time!

“Kind of a letdown.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

My wife and I booked this as a one night getaway. Upon arrival, we did not see a valet, so we self parked in the dirt parking lot across the street. The lobby is nice, and the front desk staff is pleasant. The elevator to our floor was old and in need of overhaul. The guest room hallway carpeting is old. The room itself was clean and nice, comfortable bed, good carpet, and updated marble tile in the bathroom. My wife got two treatments at the spa while I worked out. My wife said that the spa waiting rooms were not too great, as they had no lounge chairs, no piped in music, and a poor selection of teas and waters. She advised that the staff was just OK. I found the men's locker room, sauna, etc to be great, nice tile, clean, and open areas. The exercise facilities are in need of update. Cardio equipment has staining from sweat or poorly sprayed lubricant (I couldn't tell), some of the TV's were inoperable, the weight room was OK, the ceilings in the whole gym area are old time drop ceilings with fluorescent lights that could be updated. We met at the indoor pools after her treatments and my workout. This indoor pool area is really in need of upgrade. Paint chipping and mold are visible along all of the lowere walls. Picture the opening scene from the movie Caccoon, and you have this area. After exiting the pool, I noticed that all of he baseboards in the spa area have termite damage. The artwork on the walls in the spa area also needs to be updated. The downstairs game room and upstairs bar are great, but we're lacking in patrons during our visit. Breakfast was OK, not sure of price/value, as this was included in our package, but I would not pay more than $10.00/person for it. Overall, this was a disappointing stay, they could do so much more with this historic and scenic location. This resort could be miniature Ritz Carlton with some renovation and attention to detail, but they are a long way from that now.

“decent & comfortable, but needs some improvements”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

We have stayed at the Safety Harbor Resort on several occasions and have found it to be quite comfortable. The place is clean, the rooms are spacious, and the staff is very friendly.
However, this is not a situation where old is charming; old is sometimes just old, as when the plumbing is questionable, doorknobs are loose, & carpeting is worn out. This is not an inexpensive place, so one might expect a spiffier set-up. I also have some gripes about the pool area. For one, there is quite a bit of smoking going on at the pool. We watched a gentleman sit there for quite some time working on a giant stogie. Gross. Also, there were no umbrellas or shade at the pool. Both of these things seem inconsistent for a "spa." Speaking of which, I'm not particularly a spa person, but this was the only place where the staff seemed less than wonderful and the services were so-so. (Don't waste your money on a manicure!) On the positive side, the views from the hotel are great, most of the staff is terrific, the town of Safety Harbor is a small, walkable, with some good restaurants, and the resort is just a few renovations away from being great.
