“worst ever”

Being a Disney annual pass holder for years I've stayed at over 100 orlando hotels over the past 10 years. This was the worst service I've ever experienced. I booked a room on a major travel site as a secret deal. When I arrived it was pouring rain so i parked under the two lane overhang to check in. As I entered I was told I had to park out in the rain to check in. I wasn't happy but, whatever i needed to finish some work online and get some rest. However, when I gave the clerk my name, I was told I didn't have a reservation and I needed a printed reservation confirmation. I called the website and had the confirmation faxed to them. After 45 mins. and my wife and two disabled children were rained on, I thought I had a room. I couldn't believe it! They sent us to the next counter, where we were told breakfast was only free if we went to a timeshare sales presentation for 1-3 hours!!!! Needless to say we didn't eat breakfast there.

Room Tip: Stay anywhere else

Mr. Todd V.
I apologize for the bad experience that your received when you arrived at the resort. Our bellstaff should have assisted you in getting into the lobby due to the rain in the area. Since you booked your reservation through a travel site it could take a couple of hours to be downloaded into our reservation system. In addition your room was paid through the travel site which was why we had to contact them to send us the confirmation so that we would not have to ask for additional payment.

“Beyond Expectations”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

After reading some not-so-glowing reviews, I was a bit worried about what I would find at Westgate Lakes. My worries were for nothing. It was a wonderful experience. My check in took minutes, Miguel and Sergio were great, there was no pressure to attend the timeshare presentation (probably because my husband was not along), we got to use the owner's amenities for no charge - (owners bbq was a hoot!) discount on spa services (a little overpriced), no charge for marina, mini golf, etc. Personnel were very nice, accommodating. Studio apt. was clean, well-stocked and we had a wonderful view of the lake. The other vacationers were friendly and respectfully quiet. Only one warning to potential vacationers, the studio really can't accommodate more than 2 people comfortably. Other than that, my daughter and I had a spectacular time and would return.

Dear Pegs4art,

Thank you for the kind comments about the resort. I am happy to hear that you had a great time and enjoyed all of the amenities that we have to offer. The next time that you visit I suggest you try one of our one bedroom deluxe or two bedroom villas which will give you plenty of space including a full size kitchen, living room and separate bedroom. I look forward to your future visit.

“Eh...”

I'm not sure if we'll be staying at Westgate lakes in the future. We purchased a week long stay after attending a timeshare presentation in Vegas. There were 6 of us in a 2 bedroom condo in the 300 building.

So, the good first:
- full kitchen; saved us some money on meals
- 3 bathrooms
- jacuzzi tub in the master room
- screened in balcony with patio furniture
- amenities- pools, miniature golf
- proximity to Disney and other tourist stuff; plus, super Walmart is right down the street

And the cons:
- roaches, or as the "customer service rep" stated, not the dirty cockroaches. Admittedly, the front desk was responsive to our complaints and they sent someone over to spray repellant. I wasn't surprised about the bugs since I read other reviews (after I already purchased the vaca), but that didn't make them any less annoying

- sales reps; we had to go to the office to release the funds for our vacation and got stuck in an hour and a half of misery (and by misery, I mean having to say no to 2 people about buying, being told we were crazy for not buying at our locked in price, and being told we wouldn't ever find a Westgate timeshare for cheaper and subsequently being offered a cheaper timeshare after saying no again); if you need to do something similar and do not plan on buying a timeshare, I would recommend trying to get the office to simply send you the paperwork, the breakfast really isn't worth it.

- morning wake up call - I may be being picky about this item, but I was not happy that the office called me at 830 am during my vacation to tell me a meeting I never said I was going to attend needed to be pushed back because they needed to print out paperwork. I don't like bring woken up on my vacation.

- I'm fairly certain we could have bought a week for cheaper elsewhere or through other means, which may be more of an issue with the way we purchased our week and not the general rental process of Westgate

“Great Location, Beware of the Timeshare Sell!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Got there late and was greeted by what I thought to be a Concierge. Was lead to a hospitality desk and was given to believe I was signing up for a breakfast and tour of the grounds as part of my Tracelocity package, it turned out to be a timeshare sell. The 'breakfast' consisted of canned fruit, industrial eggs, one type of cereal and whole milk. We were forced to sit with a sales person to try to eat a crappy breakfast while he tried to sell us a timeshare in a room full of others being pitched the same thing. HORRIBLE!!!. We left and got our "deposit" back for the breakfast. The resort itself is well cared for, the rooms are nicely done, and the ammenities and spa are a really nice bonus. The woman at the hospitality desk the next day really did try to make ammends for the sales pitch, but I would caution anyone to stay clear of that 'deal'. Access to the bikes, paddleboats, etc closes at 5:30 which was a bummer as we had hoped to take a sunset bike ride several days and could not.

Room Tip: Rooms are basically apartments in each building. The 1500 and Higher range buildings appeared to be...
