We stayed in the Westgate Palace for 2 weeks in June 2010. The rooms were exactly as advertised. The bedrooms were comfortable with ensuite bathrooms. We used the kitchen facilities for breakfast and the washer/dryer was great. The in-room safe was also very convenient. Our suite was cleaned everyday by housekeeping. It was a bit disppointing not to have free internet anywhere in the hotel - it's available in many of the restaurants nearby. Check-in was very fast with no problems at all. Our flights home were in the evening so the hotel gave us an extra hour in our rooms before we had to check out (12 noon) and they also had the facility of storing our bags until evening. The staff at reception were not always friendly & helpful and were sometimes quite rude when we had any queries during our stay. The hotel lobby & pool area were sometimes crammed with people taking the time-share tour & sales pitch. We were asked once to take the tour which we declined and in fairness were never asked again. Dont bother collecting your "welcome pack" as this is where you are introduced to the time-share sales team. The pack is only a collection of brochures & info on the attractions & restaurants which are freely available in the lobby anyway. We stayed in Tower B which had fantastic views of Universal, Wet & Wild and ovelooked a lake which had jet-skiing & water skiing. The pool also had a grill bar and there is also a deli just off the lobby.
The hotel is situated in a very convenient area. We had no car so we relied on public transport all the time. The I-ride green line stop G6 was beside the hotel on Universal Boulevard and the red line stops 12 & 13 were a 5 minute walk up Carrier Drive onto International Drive. We also used the Free shuttle Fun Spot bus to get us to Universal Studios.
There are many restaurants within easy walking distance - TGI Fridays & Chillis are on Carrier Drive and are both highly recommended. The dinner show "Pirates Adventure" is directly opposite the hotel and seemed very popular although we didn't go. Just up from the "pirates adventure" is a brilliant bowling alley which our teenagers loved and was good value.
We spent a lot of time SHOPPING - the Premium & Prime outlet centres, the Festival Bay Mall, the Florida Mall & Point Orlando were visited on many occasions.
This was our 6th trip to Florida and the Westgate Palace is definitely the best hotel we have stayed in and would go back again.
