“Yet Another AMAZING Weekend in Orlando!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

person found this review helpful

Date of Stay: Friday, February 3, 2011
Length of Stay: 1 Night

In a nutshell, this is a truly AMAZING Hyatt in Orlando, Florida, just down the road from Walt Disney World and all the other Orlando theme parks -- nothing but the best in customer service, and a truly beautiful property!

Now, for my detailed review:

First, I must say that this review builds upon prior two review of this property -- for further information and some more details on this property, please see my prior review:

-February 2011, entitled: “A truly AMAZING 4th of July Weekend!” (posted July 6, 2010)

My wife and I always love staying at this Hyatt property when we are in the Disney area, as it is often less expensive than the Disney Resorts, and it has far better pools and customer service! If you are headed to Disney World, this property is in the perfect location and should not be missed!

Upon arrival, check-in was extremely quick and easy.

We we met by the valet, who quickly took our car and assisted with our bags. A quick word on parking -- if you have not stayed at this property in a while, be aware that parking is now an additional cost, but, that takes this property in line with all others in the area, so that is to be expected. And, the cost is quite reasonable, with self-parking at $11 per day, or Valet at $23 per day. The Valet Service is so quick and efficient, I highly recommend spending the extra money for the Valet.

Upon entry into the beautiful lobby, we were immediately greeted by another staff member by name, and directed to the front desk. This property truly excels at customer service -- from the moment you pull through the front guard gate, you are always greeted by name, as the valet and the front desk staff appears to be radio'ed ahead with your name and to expect you. The main lobby continues to amaze, as the property continues to change the lighting and the current blue lighting scene is absolutely beautiful!

At the front desk, we were again greeting by name, and check-in was extremely quick and pleasant. We were greeted by name, and we were each given a glass of excellent champagne. The agent told us that we were in a beautiful Lake View Junior Suite, as we had used a Diamond Upgrade Certificate. Having stayed in basically every room class, I was truly excited to see a Suite -- and, let me tell you, if you are coming in for a longer stay, definitely splurge for a Suite, as the Suites at this property are excellent!

After our quick and efficient check-in experience, we hopped onto the elevator and quickly traveled up to our Suite on the 12th Floor. We were in Room 1207, a "Junior Suite" with a Lake View. The room was perfect for us! You walk in and enter into a Parlor area with a half-kitchen area. To the right is the kitchen, with a wet-bar, ample cabinet space for entertaining, and a wine chiller. Then, as you proceed in, you enter the parlor seating area which has an extremely comfortable couch and chair. The parlor also has a large flat-screen HD-television with a DVD player and a surround sound system. On either side of the television unit is a set of sliding doors that lead into the bedroom area. The bedroom is a very nice sized room, with an excellent King Size Hyatt Grand Bed, along with another HD-television. Then, if you continue into the room and to the right, you enter the bathroom area, equipped with excellent upgraded bath amenities and a large shower/tub. Finally, both the parlor and the bedroom have large balconies with truly excellent views of the Lake. All-in-all, a truly wonderful suite -- again, fully worth spending the extra money!

Our main goal of the weekend was to have a fun pool day, and this property always allows for that. The pool has recently undergone an extremely pricey renovation, and it looks AMAZING! The pool now has ample plush double loungers, each with a push-button for poolside service. Also, large shade umbrellas have been installed for those who wish to have shade; these new additions provide for ample shade for those who want it, as well as plenty of open spaces to take in the beautiful Florida sun. The pools here are truly amazing, and some of the best in Central Florida -- if you just want a relaxing pool day, this is definitely the property for you!

In addition to all of that, do not forget the food -- this property offers truly excellent food!

First, for those staying in Regency Club Rooms, this is one of the nicest Hyatt Regency Clubs in the continental United States, offering beautiful views of all of the Disney Theme Parks -- including beautiful fireworks views! And, in addition to the amazing foods, the food offerings are top-notch for a Regency Club. In the morning, there is an ample Continental Selection, with a few hot items -- make sure to try the french toast! In the evening, there are also ample hot foot options. Definitely do not miss the Regency Club at this property.

Also, the pool-side food service is wonderful! Extremely quick and efficient service, strong and tasty pool-side drinks, and very well cooked food. I highly recommend the poolside hot dog for a quick and yummy poolside meal!

But, the best of the best is at this property when it comes to food -- whatever you do, do not miss Hemingway's! This is, by far, one of the best restaurants in the Disney area -- the food is EXCELLENT, and the service is to die for! I do not think that there is anything on this menu that is not truly tasty -- I highly recommend any of the fish items, as they are always extremely fresh and succulent!

All-in-all, the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress is one of the nicest hotels in the Disney area, and I would highly recommend it over any Disney Resort! Make sure to stay at this property your next visit to Walt Disney World, the Orlando theme parks, or for just a relaxing pool day!

Room Tip: Ask for a high-floor fireworks view room!

“Our Favorite "Home-away-from-Home!"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

We're locals (~50 mi away) and like to spend weekends at the Grand Cypress as it's a nice getaway. We've stayed at least a dozen times over the past couple of years. Once you're on property it's like you're no longer in Orlando! (Which is a good thing if the I-Drive theme is not your thing.) The property is in beautiful shape and undergoes minor refreshing periodically. The rooms are contemporary, clean and fresh-looking. We love the Regency Club and all the amenities that affords. Take an opportunity to go on a bike ride...the grounds are quite expansive and offer plenty to see. One of the drawbacks is that they charge a resort fee. The fee covers things like the bikes, canoes and other things we don't use. Other than an occasional bike ride we don't take advantage of "perks" the resort fee covers. The other negative is the new charge for the parking lot. It used to be free and all the Disney Properties offer free parking. I think this should be included in the resort fee.

I stay at a LOT of Hyatts and this is one of my favorites. All-in-all it's a great stay!

“Great Family Fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Stayed recently with the family including 2 children. The hotl is set just outside Disney and has a shuttle to the park. Shuttle wasnt great and this was probably the only miss of the stay. We have stayed at this hotel several times. I like the area. As stated it is just outside the area know as Downtown Disney. There are several good restaurants in the immediate area as well as a few fast food places. The food at the hotel is good, but a little expensive for what you get. We usually stay on the concierge level and for us this is a great deal. The breakfast is great and so are the evening offerings. After you pull onto the property and go by the guard, you drive up to a very nice reception area. The lobby has waterfalls and is spacious. It has a wonderful art collection and is very inviting.

The rooms are typical Florida colors, but large enough with a very comfortable bed. But for me the best part of this hotel are the grounds and the pool. I cannot say enough about how much my family loves the pool. It has grottos behind waterfalls with a bar. It meanders around and is just so very relaxing. The kids love it and so do the parents.

Staff is great from the guard to the cancierge room staff. I cannot fault any of the staff. Just an all around great quick family get away.

Room Tip: I like the concierge floor with a pool view.

“Great resort stay but small beds”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Three of us stayed for 3 nights in a room with 2 double beds but we wish they had queens. Rooms were clean and nicely decorated but the bathroom door/closet door was an awful design. If you are in the closet you trap people in or out of the bathroom. The bathroom shower door was also weird- only covered half the tub which guaranteed water all over the floor AND a cold breeze on the person in the shower. The pools are amazing, one whirlpool has a waterfall that you can use to massage your back- AWESOME! We didn't use the boats, bikes or climbing wall but they all seemed like they were in good condition. The best part was the view- from our room we could see fireworks at Epcot and at Magic Kingdom.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing disney

Thank you for staying with us. Our pool and hot tubs are just a few of the reasons our guests keep coming back. Our resort activities and manicured grounds combined with a great staff and excellent restaurants rounds out to be a most delightful stay here at the Hyatt. We hope you return soon and please recommend us to your family and friends.

“Amazing resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

My family has stayed here twice and it is the nicest, most impressive, most beautiful resort we've ever stayed. We were blown away the first time and couldn't wait to come back a 2nd time.

A couple disappointments may be all the nickel-and-dime fees. First, the resort fee is a hefty $22 a night. Also, it seems as if parking was free on our first stay (Dec 2010), but is now $11/day (Dec 2011).

We don't typically stay at such swanky properties, and the feeling that you are getting charged for all sorts of things can be pretty frustrating. For us, we stayed at an extremely discounted group rate associated with a local soccer tournament. So we couldn't complain @ paying half the $125/night group rate and having the resort fee waived.

The grounds are beautiful. Greatest pool area ever. Pictures and words don't do it justice. The waterslide in the large pool was much faster than expected! This was a pleasant surprise. Although the slide is connected to the unheated pool, it was actually quite refreshing to hit the 60F water on a warm, mid 70s day.

Pitch and putt golf is a lot of fun. A much more substantial activity than the typical putt putt golf.

Rock climbing wall was a hit with our kids.

One of the 4-seater bikes was apparently undergoing maintenance, so only 1 of them was available on the day we inquired. Great to be able to rent bikes 'free' (included with resort fee).

We never made it to the tennis courts or the paddleboats, but there is so much to do here to stay busy or stay relaxed.

Love this resort. The rooms are really nice, great modern feel and furnishings.

One thing we found odd was the shower. Last stay, we had a king bed room with sleeper sofa. The shower was fine -- if I recall, the marble foundation was a good 18" high, and the glass door started up from there. This stay, we had 2 double (queen?) beds. The shower in our room seemed different: the glass door went all the way to the floor, and large amounts of water leaked/ran/splashed onto the bathroom floor no matter who was using the shower, kid or adult.

One of our kids left her camera somewhere during the stay, and the staff was able to return it to us. We appreciated this very much, although we waited close to half an hour in the lobby for the staffer to appear.

Thank you for taking the time to review our resort. We appreciate that you have returned for a second year. We are glad to read that you truly enjoyed the pool area and the pitch and putt golf course. The resort fee covers all of our outdoor activities so you can use them at your leisure during their operating hours. We do not consider our resort swanky as it is very family friendly and unpretentious. Here's looking forward to your next visit and we hope you recommend us to your family and friends.
