This review is based on traveling with little ones (2 and 4)-family of 4. We booked this hotel based on great reviews, having the beautiful boardwalk, and proximity to epcot and hollywood studios. Unfortunately, we were very underwhelmed and were wishing that we stayed somewhere on the monorail because of the travel factor and the fact that this resort didn't feel very disney.
First off, we checked in online-things seemed great as we came in and were given our welcome folder and keys but when we got into our room, there was no balcony-just windows. We had asked for and paid for a balcony so I called the front desk only to be told that a room assigner would have to call me back. After traveling to the airport, flight, and bus to disney, we were tired and wanted to wash up and head out to the parks so I was surprised when no one called. We were in limbo so we called again and now were transfered to someone who told us there was a balcony in our room. I'm not kidding. Needless to say this whole beginning to our stay was not fun-whenever we spoke to someone, it was very unfazed, unapologetic. It was strange as disney is known for their customer service. We even asked for bedrails and they weren't in the room--had to call for that only to have them drop them off and leave them on the floor. After spending all day in the parks-it was a total pain to have to install the bedrails.
I felt that the price did not justify having to do all this legwork. This hotel also does not feel very disney as it seems to cater to conventions and the older crown more than kids. In order to get anywhere we would have to pass the convention table (in the worst spot) every time. Sometimes convention patrons would be there taking up the aisle as we tried to pass with the stroller. And to get downstairs to the boardwalk, we had to walk around this table to the elevator. It seemed as those conventions were high priority with easels, pamphlets, and employees taking up this area.
The location is great for Epcot (nice walk) Hollywood studios (ok boat ride-can get cramped) but for Magic Kingdom, it's not fun at all. The buses come whenever and sometimes they come full (checking to see if anyone has to leave) or with just 2 people leaving--so the wait just grows. It would normally take 20 to 30 min. to get the bus and then all the stops. Going to downtown disney was even worse. I thought there was going to be a brawl in the waiting area as everyone was getting irritated waiting and waiting. It was very unpleasant. We also had to go to the Grand Floridian for a character dinner, this took 1 hour and 15 minutes.
I believe this hotel is great for families with older children or couples as it would be nice to walk over to epcot at nite. The boardwalk is beautiful at nite but also noisy if the kids get to bed early, it seems to quiet down at 10-10:30. There are cute shops, magicians, carnival games and the like which make it nice for nite time strolls. One strong point is having the Kouzzina restaurant right there on the boardwalk-great food as a great break from all the buffet fare. I can't say I would stay here again, would try something more disney and close to the monorail so I could keep the stroller open for sleeping during travel--this wasn't worth the money and legwork to fix problems.
