“A fun, funky, comfortable, great, find!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 March 2010

I just spent two nights at the 1876 Heritage Inn and have fallen in love! The building is fascinating with all it's nooks and crannies. There is a wonderful wrap around porch that allows you to access the rooms, a barber shop, a postal museum, and the wonderful Gram's kitchen. The porch has comfortable benches and chairs all around with tons of plants around as well to make you feel as if you are at home.
The rooms are spacious, nice period decor, and a good size bathroom. My only complaint for the bathroom would be the sink/vanity is a bit low. I am 5 11 so I realize I am tall, however my mother made the comment as well. Not a big deal however. The bedding was so comfortable! I am VERY picky and have a very broken body. My bed at home has hundreds of dollars worth of padding for me to have a good night sleep. I slept like a log both nights AND even slipped in a nap! Not only was the bed nice and comfortable but the sheets, blankets, and pillows helped to create a luxurious cocoon.
The room also came equipped with a mini fridge and microwave which was very handy for snacks and water. A nice extra that was included in the room rate.
Gram's Kitchen is another wonderful gem that is part of the 1876. It is certainly a local hang out which in my eyes gives it a lot of street creed! I can now say after eating three meals there I too would be a regular if I lived near by. For breakfast one day I had two scrambled eggs, a homemade biscuit, and my coffee for under two dollars. Hard to beat that!!! There is a large variety of scrumptious treats for breakfast as well as lunch and all very reasonably priced.
1876 is a funky find that I highly recommend if you are in the area. We stayed there to visit and attend classes in Cassadaga. The hotel is also 30 miles from Orlando, less then five miles from Blue Springs Park, and just a few miles from the beautiful De Land.
I highly recommend staying here and I hope to stay here again in the future!

“Good Price Great Room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 April 2009

The room was very clean, nicely appointed,no bad smells, and secure. A real surprise after seeing and smelling the main building.(It reeks of oldness and heavy cigg. smoke) Be sure to ask about the free breakfast, as it isn't included with certain rooms. Also there wasn't wi-fi available in my room, but there was a high speed cable jack, which worked fine. Overall a great value for a nice room for the evening.

“Pleasant stay at 19th Century motel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 April 2008

We want to tell you how very much we enjoyed our stay at the 1876 Heritage Inn.
The room was perfect – my wife especially loved the period pieces (she said her late mother would have oohed and ahed about the décor as well). The old wood (original?) floors and the huge headboard contributed to the look. The room was very clean. Despite being on US 17/92, the area was quiet and restful. The queen sized bed was very comfortable and included 4 pillows. We didn’t need the A/C except on MED FAN only (April weather). We felt safe (that’s a biggie these days, unfortunately). The room rate ($55) was very reasonable. We are accustomed to staying in those "cookie-cutter" name-brand motels, all the same except the name -- what a contrast the Heritage Inn was, compared to the same-old, same-old. We registered by phone, rather than by internet so we could ask questions and get directions. Just one slight negative: We thought that the parking lot needed a light for safety. All in all, we felt welcome, safe, and comfortable. Yes, we would stay there again if our travels took us to the Orange City area.

  • Liked — Unique decor and pleasant surroundings
  • Disliked — Parking lot needed security lighting

“Wonderful getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 March 2008

I wanted everyone to know what a wonderful place the 1876 Heritage Inn is. We booked 4 rooms and all were clean, neat, and very acomodating. The manager was incredibly nice. The food at Grams kitchen was pretty good too. The grounds were beautiful, plants everywhere. The porch was such a nice place to just relax and kick your feet up. No one cared what time of the night you were out there. It was a great location with great people.

“The Heritage for value”

My partner and I visited The Heritage Inn Sept 06 and found it to be a great place to stay. We have no hesitation in recommending it to travellers who wish to find good accommodation at a good price.

Our room was the Eau Claire Suite, a large room with queen sized bed and very impressive headboard. This was matched equally by the Victorian style furniture in the room, very romantic. Mod cons included satellite TV, fridge, microwave oven and telephone for free local calls. If the number was not local but was a place to visit, then girls on reception were only too happy to accommodate and ring through for you, and as we found out, they would persevere until a result was forthcoming. Off the main room was the bathroom and wardrobe area, no clothes hangers but a trip to Target and $1.52 for 12 hangers soon sorted that one! Ample clean towels, toilet rolls and bath/shower soaps greet you, with the maid service on alternate days of the week as stated. The shower was good, very powerful, never used the bath but it was a good size.

The building itself is great architecturally, it stands out as something completely different along a road that has the usual restaurants, usual shops and usual buildings. Historically, the building was once the main post office and houses hundreds of letters, envelopes and stamps all pleasantly displayed for all you philatelists out there. There is also a room housing antique postal equipment and a stuffed man with strange fingers!!!!

The Eau Claire suite is situated on the ground floor veranda next to another suite the DeYarman I thnink ! and Lennie the Barbers, who is as elusive as the Florida Panther! Wonder around the back of the building and you will find a delight that you will not forget in a hurry - Grams Kitchen - a fantastic eatery with a wide selection of breakfast and lunch menu. The restaurant is unassuming and not something you are likely to fall open by accident. The clientele would appear to be residents and locals who keep the restaurant a closely guarded secret, and quite rightly too! The girls who look after you are both pleasant and helpful, you are always made welcome and the food is outstanding. Healthy options are available to those of you who like to ease your holiday guilt but personally I’d forget it and enjoy the Florida hospitality.

During our stay, two rooms to the rear were being refurbished so more rooms on the veranda are expected. Inside the Heritage Inn are rooms which appear to be residential, and a laundry room. We never used this facility so unfortunately cannot comment on this.

The location of the Heritage Inn makes it very easy to drop onto the I4 interstate road and take a trip down to the theme parks in Orlando. This is around 40-45 minutes away, nice easy driving. Go the other direction and your heading for Daytona on the coast. Just up the road is the beautiful town of Deland, include this in your trip you will nor regret it and visit The Brickhouse Steak Restaurant, again recommended by the girls on reception, thanks.

On your visit to Grams Kitchen, don’t forget to pick up the token booklet that gets you discount to various establishments and services close by (including The Brickhouse). If you are an Internet junky, the Orange City library which is 100 yards away, will cater for your needs together with providing Florida guidebooks on places to visit. Within five minutes of the Heritage Inn are all the expected discount stores, supermarkets, restaurants etc. and do visit Blue Springs State Park

If you are looking for good value accommodation in Central Florida then look no further than the Heritage In
