“Iguanas included”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Arriving jet-lagged from London in Miami you need a decent hotel and the Mandarin Oriental is just that - an oasis of calm amid the skyscrapers and a man-made beach to boot. Complete with iguanas. Yes, really. All four feet of them - sunning themselves as you burn in a lounger or prop up the bar.

Rooms are spacious, cafe and poolside restaurant both offer sushi and fusion cooking. Service is efficient, even attentive.

You honestly feel the hotel appreciates your custom. Now that's something that's been missing around the world for a while.

Room Tip: Go for a bay view, it's worth the extra !

“I expected more”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

First of all I will not complain about the service because it was very good, however It is an expensive hotel (and the brand Mandarin kind of give you high expectations) so you would expect a better kept facility. Most of the hotel (if not all) is in need of a renovation. The pool area its OK not great. The view is great but the hotel do not have a beach. The hotel is well located but if you have a car. You can walk to restaurants but it will be a long walk. On the other hand the food in the hotel is excellent. I loved the walking path that they have around the hotel.

“Nice but limited view...that's it!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

When I booked this hotel it was all about the view. I stayed for 1 night and was upgraded to the Deluxe Veranda room. While I appreciated the upgrade at the time I probably should have kept my standard city view room. First, the veranda is not very private, only a plant separates you from your neighbors. Second, the veranda has a lounge chair which is nice to relax on but the way the hotel is designed the veranda extends outward one floor lower than the lowest floor of hotel guest rooms. Therefore, everyone on the balconies above (25-30 floors of them) look down on you and after I glanced up twice finding people staring down on me I wondered why I paid over 300 dollars to feel like I was on display. Thirdly, when I called and asked for a thirty minute late checkout, I was told no because the "room type I was in was limited and sold out". I understand checkout time is checkout time but come on, I spent less than 24 hours in the hotel and hundreds of dollars for a five star experience, and I wound up rushing myself to checkout after a phone call ran 20 minutes long and again thinking, for the money, this was not worth it. Now if you want a view of the downtown Miami from your balcony this is the best you'll get. The view is limited since the hotel is built kind of u shaped so depending on where your room is the view is still stunning but not grand. My advice is for these prices to stay in south beach, and if you want a great view of Miami take a 4 mile walk (one-way) across the Venetian Causeway. It's free and just as private!!! In addition there is huge opening between the bedroom and bathroom which was weird (and I was alone). Even though the toilet is behind a separate door, I don’t need to see into the sink and shower area and really wonder: who would?

“A beautiful hotel with topnotch service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

This was our second visit to the MO in Miami, and it did not disappoint! We love the staff, the food, and the great service. The prices are high, but then again you're paying for the great view and the great service. We were impressed that when I drove up to the hotel after an event, the valet recognized me and called me by name. He had not seen me drive our car before. That's pretty amazing. Loved our breakfast at Cafe Sambal and the 250 plus martinis at the M bar. Dining at Azul could have had a few more additions to their main courses. The only downer was that our room was across from the housekeeping closet, and that the shower door leaked, creating a puddle on the floor.

Room Tip: We enjoy the city view rooms because of the wonderful views of the skline. The bayside rooms can be...

“Over the top service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

The service here was outstanding. All staff bent over backwards to anticipate and fulfill our needs. The location is gorgeous and handy to center city Miami locations. The price was reasonable for the quality.

The only negative is the facility is a little "tired" in some areas and does not sparkle like newer Mandarins we have visited. The Rooms are great and the service attitude so positive it makes up for the slight refreshing neededn
