I was pleasantly surprised by how nice this place was.
Pros:
-Newly refurbished oceanfront suites(except bathrooms to be done next year). Bathroom was adequate though, with quality bath products. Separate bedroom, living room, and kitchen with dining area. Kitchen has full frig, microwave, toaster, coffee maker. No cook top, which to me is a good thing on vacation!
-Comfortable King bed-soft, just the way I like it.
-New pool opened 2 weeks ago. Nicely landscaped with tropical plantings and palm trees. No morning sun though-shaded by the building.
-free self parking. So nice not having to valet park.
- Direct Oceanfront-no road to cross.
-free umbrellas and chairs at the beach. Hammocks too.
-Internet $5/day in the rooms. Free in Lobby and pool area.
-General manager Christine was very nice.
Cons:
-Internet didn't work in my room, so I had to go outside or in the lobby to use my laptop.
-On site restaurant too expensive in my opinion for a 3* hotel. Prices more in line with a 4-5* resort. Never saw too many people dining there, and saw many look at the breakfast menu and leave. I think they would get more business if the prices were lower.
-I'm confused now as to whether they have a full bar, or just beer and wine. We had drink coupons, and when we went to use them, were told they only have a beer and wine license. Later I noticed on their menu that many tropical drinks are listed, so I'm not sure what's up with that.
Tips:
-At this location you would be better off having a car, although the bus stops very close by and will take you to the main beach area, and to Lauderdale-By-the -Sea.
We like this location with a car as it is a very short drive to the many restaurants we like, and to Las Olas and the main beach area.It would be possible however to rely on the bus and cabs though.
-Rooms on the 5th and 6th floor are more desirable I think, for the views. I would avoid rooms on the 1st floor(no privacy on your patio), but some people might like the quick access to the beach from these rooms.
