We booked a 'historic queen' for our stay of 2 nights this past weekend. When we arrived the hotel looked average from the outside and nothing spectacular. Window AC units poking out of the rooms from the outside, aging stucco work, and a small parking lot where spots are scarce because of the morning public yoga class the hotel holds every morning. We checked in quick, most of the hotel staff was friendly showing us to our room. When we walked into the room, it was basically just that - A small room with a queen bed. The bathroom was also small. The bathroom was so small they actually had to place the sink outside of the bathroom right across from the bed which made things even more cramped. We made do simply because were a couple in our late twenties with no children. I was only a little frustrated because if you book the room on there website, no where does it say the square footage of the room nor does it show a glimpse of the sink being outside of the bathroom so you think your going to be getting an average sized room but your not. We payed premium price for the room considering it is winter time which is busy season in Florida(when is it not?). The window AC unit which is in the room cooled the room quickly which I would expect because the room was small in the first place, but the unit itself is loud, so if your a light sleeper like my wife you might not sleep so well. It is also located right on atlantic avenue so there were the occasional loud motorcycles and cars to drive by which you can hear from your room, not to mention the train that comes by at 2 am which woke me up my 2nd night. They do provide ceiling fans in the rooms also in addition to the window unit. They provide adequate bathroom supplies such as towels, shampoo, conditioner, etc. The room itself besides being smaller than expected had some charm. The furniture was dated but that somewhat adds to the historic feeling. The lobby is also charming but has no air conditioning so be advised if your planning on staying at this hotel in the summer months. The breakfast that's provided in the mornings is nice. Various cereals, bagels, muffins, eggs, sausage, and coffee/juices. We had a run in with a couple unpleasant staff members which did not make things enjoyable. When we arrived to breakfast the first morning we had seen small soup bowls for cereal that other guests were using but noticed there were not any more available. We asked a staff member politely for a couple more small bowls and instead of a pleasant response she said to us "Just use the bigger bowls they'll serve the same purpose yanno". If I'm staying at your hotel and the only thing we ask of is a couple more small bowls that's really not the response I want to hear. So that staff member was unpleasant. We went on to ask a different staff member which answered our request and brought us out 2 more small bowls. Another situation was when we asked if the sausage was beef or pork(we don't eat pork), and instead of the staff member answering us all she did was look at us in the face and say I don't know and just walk away never returning to give us an answer. Maybe it was just a bad morning for the breakfast staff? The other staff members which work the front desk were pleasant and will listen and respond to your needs politely. The cabana club was pleasant. Its about 2 miles away from the hotel right on the beach. They provide towels and cabanas and have a place for lunch which we did not try. Overall I would rate the stay average. I just want to emphasize that if you book a historic queen room, be prepared for it to be smaller than expected.
