I have fallen in love with a tiny city just west of gainesville. So private and yet so full of life. People are great its like stepping back in time, to the way real southern people were when I was a little girl. Anyone who lives within five hours should visit this fun little town.

I thought there was no hope for Florida. Most of the cities are tourist traps. You either get Panama City overloaded with hateful teenagers tearing the place apart and making things miserable for everybody, or you get Disney World full of tacky attractions catering to large families with noisy kids. Cedar Key caters to older people who just want peace and quiet and relaxation. It is isolated, it is boring (I mean that in a good way). Just ride a golf cart around and look at the sunset. Cons: yeah, there are a couple. The tiny manmade beaches are horrible, and there are almost no good restaurants. BUT the sunset is glorious, and everyone is friendly and has their dog with them. Only one road into town. No McDonalds, no chain stores, almost no modern conveniences. You have to carry cash because very few places accept credit cards. If you love peace, quiet, dogs, and beautiful sunsets and despise noise and teenagers and parties, Cedar Key is for you.

Cedar Key is a lovely little town full of friendly people. Its quite old-fashioned and quaint and not the place to be if you want everything on your doorstep. But if you want to kickback and relax, take a boat out, do a spot of fishing or simply enjoy the scenery then you just might enjoy. This place is also on the nature coast so for photographers, nature lovers and artists this is ideal.

Perfect place to get-a-way and relax or go fishing, or enjoy good food. Terrific birding and stargazing too! Safe place, not a typical tourist trap. Great for outdoor photograpy and artist inspiration as well as book writing peace and quiet. Cedar Key is a destination spot for certain.
