“Dated kitchenette, lots of long term guests”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

This property offers a wide variety of accommodations from camping, trailers to hotel rooms. It's obvious that many of their guest come back year after year and stay for long periods at a time. In the morning you'll find dozens of folks gathered around the free coffee for what was described to me as "liars club" (everyone lying about the fish that got away.)

We needed a hotel room for a night and ended up in a 2 bedroom kitchenette. It came complete with dishes (some of which were dirty) and we enjoyed preparing a meal instead of eating out. The unit seemed clean but we were surprised they didn't offer any shampoo for overnight guests. (They sell it in the general store). The pool was nice and heated.

The on going joke for us was the TV. My wife kept saying "let's watch a little TV" because the TV was literally little. It must have been 12" and stuck up on top of the refrigerator. Luckily this wasn't important to us.

For us it was a fine night's stay. Very close to the Bahia Honda State Park

“A Gem in the Keys”

Tent camping in this key is something I have always wanted to do but it was until this year that me and my girl finally did. What a wonderful time we had.

This particular campground is the best that I have ever camp on. The facility is family oriented and the people are nice and accommodating We arrived late on Friday and we were assigned a site that we did not like because it was dark and we wanted to be near the water. During the morning we spoke to the service desk and they were very helpful accommodation us to the site we wanted..

The facility is geared with European showers for families or couple to enjoy in addition to the regular men and women showers. Me and my girl loved taking hot showers together and these family showers were private, clean and a great compliment to our rustic camping.

I was just getting impressed and impresses as I found out pool, ping pong tables, arcade and TV rooms for people to watch during the night for those not interested in just the regular beautiful setting that the keys offer. There is also a heated pristine pool on the top deck of the board room it is just simply a fantastic vacation spot just 2 hrs from Miami.

On top of all of these the site is host of the endanger Key Deer and they roam around the campground as in a regular pet zoo for children and adults delight. Be careful with the food though as they are very tame and sometime a bit of a household pet with your food.

“One year later and it's still great!”

We returned to Big Pine Key again for Thanksgiving week this year. The trip was even better than last year. We camped again in our travel trailer, but since this was a return trip we knew a great site we wanted. The staff accommodated our request and the site we had was great. Again this year the staff served an early Thanksgiving dinner a couple of days before Thanksgiving. We rented a boat this year and did some fishing. We caught a ton of snapper! Overall, the trip and our stay at Big Pine Key Fishing Lodge was a total success and we will most likely go back next year. Just a warning that pets are not allowed due to a law that protects the Key Deer that roam free on the island.

“Clean, family friendly and a great location!!”

One of the best things about Big Pine Key is its location. Easy access to do all the great Keys outdoor stuff (even without a boat) at the Bahia Honda State Park (just 5 mins away) and still close enough to visit Key West to see the attractions, have a great dinner, etc. So, to find an affordable place to stay on BPK is great - - finding one that is so clean, so safe, so friendly - - well, that is AWESOME. We went with another family (both with young sons) and stayed in one of their trailers on the property and that was the best of both worlds - - still felt like we were camping but with the comfort of air conditioning!!! We felt safe letting the boys place outside and really enjoyed the property. All times of the year have their own great things to offer - - I actually like the summer time for the Keys (with above-mentioned A/C) because it stays light later so you can enjoy being outside and relaxing at the end of day. All in all, a great family vacation and a wonderful place to stay!!! Now that my son is older, there is still plenty for him to do on Big Pine and whole new set of experience to have. My advice - go and have fun.

“Definitey recomended and we will return often!”

Camped at Big Pine Fishing Lodge from 20-23 November 2011. My wife and I tent camped in a full hookup site that worked out perfectly for our needs. The park staff were all pleasent and would bend over backward to accomodate us. The grounds and facilities were spotlessand in good working order. A turkey dinner was provided with all the trimmings at a small charge per person. The meal was outstanding and was without a doubt, a great bargain. The pool is atop one of the recreation buildings allowing for privacy and better sun bathing access. The park has enough to do that we only left to go to Key West Malory Square, Duval Street and some shopping.

Room Tip: Ask for the campsites on the ocean.
