“Great stay!”

I stayed at this hotel with my boyfriend during February 2011. The hotel is very well located, just in front of the beach, it has free parking (and we always found a parking lot), and there is a Publix supermarket just one block distance, that has everything you need.
It is placed in Surfside I think, almost Bal Harbour, and the neighbourhood is very quiet, great for couples and family.
The pool was nice, it was heated. And it had another pool, but did not try it.
Breakfast was average, you can have the essential but dont ask too much.
The bedroom was clean and with a lot of space for just 2 persons. It had 2 TVs, 2 bathrooms- And it has a microwave so you can have your own food there.
People at the reception do not speak spanish but my parents were there some months later (they do not speak english at all) and they had a very nice stay also.
I really recommend it.Oh! it does have Internet wifi for free also, and works!

“A brilliant hotel!”

I was apprehensive about staying in Miami but this is a gem of a hotel. It's on the beach, rooms are HUGE!!!!!!! and comfortable and breakfast is great! I loved my stay here and didn't want to leave! Parking is an art with small spaces. It's far enough away from South Beach and the Art Deco district for families to go and look at it but come away after! Publix is just across the road and useful to stock up on fruit and drinks and snacks. Unusually for the USA we walked ked to Bal Harbour and the suprrounding area. We walked to Publix for a lunchtime ice cream and coke! In the evening a nice block or two over was Flanigan's Seafood Bar and Grill Restaurant.

“THE BEST”

Just want to tell everyone what a pleasant & clean hotel the B/W Ocean Front Miami is. Rooms were very clean on arrival, plenty of towels etc. We requested no room service all week (we had 3 teens) but cleaning staff asked every day if we needed anything & replaced towels etc. Beds clean, compfortable & no bugs.
Jerry on the desk had us signed in very quickly & was very pleasant & helpful at all times.
Excellent location, both pools very clean.
Breakfast, always lots of food there, & served until 10:30am (a bonus, most hotels serve unti 9am). You really are on the beach when you open the door.
Not a big fancy hotel, small family hotel with very friendly staff. No problems with parking.

Room Tip: If you are a senior, get the lower rooms. (Rm 408 excellent view)

“Great value in an oceanfront property!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

This is an older motor hotel located oceanfront in the comfortable Surfside neighborhood of Miami Beach. It is in a quiet residential neighborhood. In its beachfront location it is flanked by newer highrise buildings containing condos that probably sell in the millions of dollars. A block away is a commercial street with restaurants and shops. A few blocks north is the ritzy Bal Harbour neighborhood.

The hotel shows careful, loving maintenance. Everything appears to be clean and freshly painted. Our room was a suite with a double-queen bedroom, a living room with a sofabed, and a kitchen. The bathroom was typical '60s-era small, but the shower was great, the towels big and soft, and everything was immaculately clean. Sure it's old, perhaps as old as 50 years, but very well kept. I'm old too, but that doesn't mean I'm ready for the junk pile!

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast had numerous choices and the hot things were hot and the cold things were cold. Breakfast was open for at least 3 hours, unusual for a complimentary breakfast service. You could eat indoors or outside on the patio. You'll find folding beach chairs in your room that you can take to the beach. The kitchen includes a four burner gas range with oven, full sized refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and all the pots, pans, plates, glasses and utensils you could want.

I really can't think of a place that offered better value than this, anywhere. It's not luxurious, but entirely comfortable and the location is one that people pay millons for. Yours for under $200 a night!

“Beware: bed bugs and no one cares”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

When you hear 'bed bugs" - run! We should have done it right away, but we did not. Do not make the same mistake - do not stay there. But let me start from the beginning:

We have checked it at this Best Western Oceanfront room 419 late evening on December 14, 2011. First impression: quite dirty but still OK for an old oceanfront motel. But little we knew. The first night was OK and we did not spend a lot of time at the hotel during the day. But the second night is where the nightmare begun. My 10-year old daughter woke up at 1am from terrible itching and we found more than 20 bed bugs bites on her. We know that they were bed bugs bites since we looked at her bed and found the actual bed bites. We even catch two of them (alive). Their photos are enclosed for your enjoinment :). Photos of some of the bites on my daughter are also here.

We went to the front desk and the guy offered us to move to the new room next to our old one (room 420). He was "average" nice: apologized, but did not offer any help moving our stuff in the middle of the night and even charged us $2 for laundry detergent because we needed to wash our bed-bugs infected cloth.

The hotel stuff assured as that it is an isolated accident and we are safe in our new room. Initially we booked a 3-night stay and we decided to stay the last night because we were too lazy to move to a new hotel. Big mistake! Huge!!! On the same day (Dec 16) at 5pm we found a bed bugs eggs in our new room (we did a very thorough investigation). This was it. We immediately went to front desk and said we want to check out and be out of there ASAP. At first the guy (another one) at the front desk apologized but this is where his (and the owner's) kindness stops. Not only did they charge us for the sleepless night (on Dec 16), but they also charged us for the upcoming night (which we did not stay) because we check out at 5pm and not at their 12pm checkout time.

In summary: we stayed their 2 nights, one of which we were moving from one room to another and washing our cloth in hope to get rid of any bed bugs and their eggs that may have gotten into it (it took us 2 hour from 1am till 3am plus a trip to a pharmacy to get Benadryl cream for my daughter's itching), my daughter got eaten alive by bed bugs (she is still itching and the bites become bigger although 10 days have been past already), and we got charged for 3 nights!!! The only thing the owner did was reduced our rate for ONE night by $27!!! Yep, this is right, 2 sleepless hours by my whole family and at 10 days (and counting) of my daughter's misery worth $27 to the owner of this "motel".

And special "thanks" to the night front desk guy who was on duty on the evening of Dec 16: he was the rudest hotel employee I've ever seen. He "talked" to the manager on the phone (or at least he claimed he talked) about my problem but did not allow me to speak to him. After that he was basically saying: you can go or you can stay, I will still charged you for 3 nights. His "compassion" for my daughter disappeared right away: he was simply smiling and saying that there is nothing I can do about it. He was simply enjoying his little power in some sadistic way.

So, the bottom line: if you do not want to spend your vacation scratching bed bugs bites: find some other place to stay.

Room Tip: stay away: bed bugs are here
