As the only natural history museum in the state, the Museum welcomes more than 75,000 visitors each year to experience an African watering hole, gaze up at a giant squid, encounter a jaguar face-to-face, and marvel at the diversity of shells from around the globe. Gallery highlights also include the only permanent dinosaur collection in Delaware, a simulated coral reef, and a Science in Action paleontology lab. Throughout the year, the Museum also hosts several special exhibits on national tour. « less

“Dinosaurs!! Bring the kids!!”

What a great surprise this little museum is. You and your children will love it. They have full sized dinosaurs, a beautiful shell gallery, giant mammals, an African watering hole, and a great Discovery Room which is a perfect hands on environment for children to explore. There is also a little interesting museum store as well.

Without children the museum will take you just about an hour or so to walk through, but if you do bring your kids, they will not want to leave the dinosaur room. This is the only museum in Delaware where dinosaurs are on permanent display.

Outside the museum is a nature trail and a butterfly garden. There was a birthday party going on while we were there, and those kids were having a blast. Movies are also shown in the museum auditorium throughout the day. All of the staff, from the nice ladies at the admission desk, to the assistants in the galleries, make you feel welcome and are very helpful.
