“Treated like royalty”

We were hesitant to try the Forest Queen because we thought it had a bar downstairs. But, the bar has been converted to a restaurant. Our hosts, Vic and Elke, treated us like royalty -- custom breakfast every morning, fresh flowers, a surprise dessert and pot of tea delivered to our room one night. They are the friendliest, most attentive innkeepers ever. The FQ is historical, funky and comfy. Our room had a queen bed and a large bathroom with a no-surprises shower. Some other guests shared a bath down the hall. We left the window open each night and fell asleep to the sounds of Coal Creek tumbling by. There's a radio, but no TV. But who visits CB to watch TV? We can't wait to go back to the Forest Queen.

“Highly Recommended!”

Honestly, if you're looking for a decent place to stay and a great experience to boot you can't beat The Forest Queen. The rooms here have been updated but the place retains an authentic Old West charm. My wife and I felt like we walked right into Deadwood.
I assume if you're looking to be left alone you will be but my wife and I made friends for life with Vic and Elke. What an unique and wonderful place and interesting folks to go with it.
Vic even promised to wake us up if the town bear decided to make an appearance out back that night.
Pay more if you want to in Crested Butte but if you want the real deal this is your ticket.

“The Best Place In Town”

This is a historic 1880’s hotel the only one on Elk St right in the center of town within easy walking of all restaurants and bars, the hotel has been updated. The rooms are exceptionally clean with great bedding rooms are small, but fine as you'll be out during the day. Highly recommend ROOM #6 it is right on the creek so you have the sound of the creek all night long. Breakfast is delicious with crepes, omelettes (Highly recommended), and homemade scones & they'll start serving dinner in November. Vic & his wife, Elke, are very nice and accommodating. The bar downstairs is now very quiet, no music and will serve drinks with dinner in November also. OK Room #1 is directly on the main street and can be noisy at night when restaurants and bars are open, but not all night long. ** (Robin & Elizabeth)**

“Friendly, wonderful caretakers (Vic & Elke)”

This hotel is historic, but has been updated. The rooms are exceptionally clean with great bedding and pillows! Small rooms, but fine if you'll be out during the day hiking or biking. Ask for ROOM #6! It is right on the river so you hear the sound of the creek all night long. Breakfast is delicious with crepes, omelets, and homemade scones & they'll start serving dinner in November. Vic & his wife, Elke, are very nice and accommodating. There is no live music in the bar so the downstairs is quiet. Don't settle for Room #1, as it is directly on the main street and very noisy all night long. ** (Sharon & Ron) **

“"Running" won't be fast enough!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2009

This was the worst 2 nights I've ever spent in a hotel! This hotel is above a bar and for two nights in a row, the music was so loud, I could hear every word to every song with ear plugs in a two pillows on top of my head. The music lasted until 1:30 am!

We spoke with the manager the morning after the first night, and they blamed it on the hotel next door. We spoke with that hotel and they said they were not having music on our second night. The other hotel was honest with us. Our hotel played music again the second night. Even when we asked them to turn it down the second night, the music gradually became louder again and the manager who I spoke with was at the bar drinking himself! What's really infuriating is that there were less than a dozen people in the bar. They would rather upset more hotel guests than to turn the music down for a few bar patrons.

If that wasn't enough, the water from the faucet comes out brown, when they cleaned the room they took the bathroom towels then didn't replace them, and clearly they didn't clean the shower.

I would have rather slept outside on a park bench then to stay in this hotel again.
