We really really wanted to like this motel. But unfortunately, it was impossible.
The motel is maybe circa 1930s with very few upgrades, repairs, etc. done over the years. It has tilting/sagging floors that make you feel dizzy when you walk across them. There are dark wood panel walls, single pane windows caulked shut, dingy styrofoam ceiling with stains (and I mean styrofoam like the kind you might haul your fishing worms around in). There was visible air space around the exterior door.
The ancient carpet was stiff with filth - never walked barefoot on anything like that in my life. The plastic curtains with small holes don't quite shut, so a paper clamp is provided to clip them closed. The window sill was littered with dead flies.
The bathroom is tiny with no counter space for cosmetics. No toiletries are provided except bar soap. No hair dryer. The bathroom fan was so extremely loud it was scary - so turned it off. The bathroom door sticks to the carpet when open and sticks in the door jam when shut. Hair in the bathtub. The bathroom window was cracked and repaired with tape; the bathroom mirror was cracked. The shower was adequate with enough hot water to shower - but then we were the only ones using water at the time.
The mattress was horrible - hard and cheap - virtually unsleepable.
The micro worked fine. TV is attached almost at ceiling level - not tested by us.
There was a large dead beetle to greet us in the bathroom. The room had plenty of flies - some strange variety that likes to land on people no matter how much you swat at them.
After we tossed and turned for hours on that miserable mattress, another couple arrived at the motel office at 3:00a.m. and requested a room. How do we know??? Because we could hear everything. The entire motel was empty except for us. So where did the management put them??? In the room next to us. The paper thin walls allowed us to listen to them loudly talk, bang around, etc. After this went on for some time, we tapped on the wall to let them know that they weren't the only people on the planet - and they reduced the volume to conversational level - which we could still hear every word, giggle, etc. This went on until 4:30 a.m. At 5:00 a.m. the alarm clock in our room went off - set to loud radio apparently by previous guests and not reset by motel staff. I had to find and turn on the lights to figure out how to disarm it. At 5:30 a.m. the alarm in the next room went off (also set by previous guests) - only the current guests didn't bother to figure out how to disarm it - so they kept hitting snooze allowing it to sound off every few minutes until they finally got fed up and disabled it. By now it was time for us to "wake up" and hit the road.
An absolutely miserable experience!
