“Very Rude Owner”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2011

We checked in and tried to change our campsite due to it being very small and having a very short driveway which put us close to the road with a 3 and 5 year old. I asked politely to switch and was told "As the owner it is my prerogative to assign campgrounds as I see fit" and refused to consider changing us to a different site. After explaining my reason for wanting the switch (which could have been done easily) her response to me was "Ma'am, I have given you my answer" at which point I told her I could not believe how rude she was to me and said goodbye.
I then went out to the car and told my husband I wanted to leave, so he wanted to see for himself. He politely asked if she could switch us, and in front of quite a few of her staff and other customers, gave a rude reply. He then said in a polite and non threatening voice, "You have very poor customer service", and her reply to him was to say she would call the sheriff!! I did not make this up, this actually happened! We were very surprised, got a refund and camped at a different campground in the area.

“Pretty KOA”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2011

Nice KOA. We stayed here for two nights in July. A very clean and scenic campground. The setting is really pretty and natural. It is of course a KOA and not a national park campground, but they've done a nice job with blending into the natual topography. The restrooms are clean and the staff were friendly. The RV sites are close together, but I saw a couple of tent sites that were private with beautiful views of the mountains. They offer a yummy breakfast in the morning. Coffee is watery, but free - so don't complain! Bring your own, if you need a hearty brew. They have horses for trail rides. Our 13 year old enjoyed the game room. A perfect place to stay if you need hook-ups and electricity.

“Great location... staff not promoting a relaxed weekend”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2011

Location was great/amazing views, facilities were good, nice to have horseback riding on site. However, I found the staff quite difficult and not promoting a relaxed/enjoyable weekend. Couple examples: We did not follow the "standard" process for check in. So were scolded (we did receive an apology, but not a good way to start the weekend), At 10pm on the dot, we received a "quiet time notice" and "stay in your campsites" speech from one of the staff members... even though we were already quietly sitting around our campsite. Finally, at 630am I was woken to them hammering on the roof (re-doing their roof)... another example of the staff not considering their customers satisfaction. As well, even though we have a camper big enough for the entire family, the kids usually like sleeping in a tent on our site (more fun). Even though I was paying for extra people, they would not allow us to put up the tent without buying a separate "tent" site. Again, even though the location was great, we will not be visiting this KOA again. We prefer a more relaxed, enjoyable/comfortable, atmosphere.

“Very Scenic, Clean Restrooms, and Professional Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2010

We go on 3-week trips every summer. To keep costs down, we stay at KOA campgrounds in their "Kamping Kabins." They are very basic and range in price but are usually competitive with other places with camping cabins in the same area.

Although one of the more expensive KOA campgrounds we have been to, it was worth every penny! The area is gourgeous and the campground is situated up on a hill between two rocky hillsides with a view of a few 14, 000 foot mountain peaks across an expansive, green valley. There is a very busy two-lane highway way down the hill about a mile, but the noise from that wasn't too bad.

We were very sorry that we had only booked 2 nights at this campground because not only did the area have numerous things to do, there was also plenty to do without leaving the campground. There are hot springs, fishing, and even a ghost town (St Elmo) all within an hour or less of the campground. Oh, also there are numerous river rafting companies and even a zip-line attraction near Salida.

There is a horseback riding stables right on sight that is run by a wonderful family. We went on the best trail ride ever which only cost us $25.00 each for one hour. In the area where we live, the stables charge a minumum of $50.00/hr so this was a bargain.

The only problem we encountered while here was the the hot water heater for the restrooms went out so there was no hot water one of the nights we stayed there. The repair man was called promptly but he had to order the part from the east coast. So the management promptly let us know and told us that we could check out and go elsewhere and that they would refund us for the remainder of out reservation (that night) or they would comp us breakfast the following morning for our family of 4. So even though we had gone fishing and horseback rding that day and sorely needed a shower, we opted for the breakfast. option. We figured that we were camping and had to rough it.

They also told us that the community center in town had showers we could probably use and they even called for us to inquire about the hours. Unfortunately they were going to close too soon for us to get there, but they did make the call.

I was very impressed how the management was very apologetic about the shower situation and that they offered us solutions. We have had our hot water heater fail at our house too so I know that it never happens at a good time.

By the way, the breakfast was delicious and the cooks were friendly. Again, it was on-site and very convenient, especially since it was the morning of our departure.

Also, this place was very clean. They were in the process of doing some painting when we were there and the bathroom and laundry room were sparkling clean. I highly recommend this KOA, it was one of the best we have ever been to.

“Best KOA we've been to”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2010

Very happy we stayed here. Very picturesque - great views of the mountains. The website does not do it justice. Grounds had a lot of rock formations in the hills that the kids loved climbing on. The cabin and baths were very clean and the staff could not have been any nicer. Also very close to town.
Recommend Noah's Ark rafting and Mother's for breakfast in BV.
