“Fabulous Cottages at the Foot of the Flatirons”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2010

We stayed in a charming cottage in Chautauqua Park for three days in July. The scenery is fantastic -- meadows and mountains basically outside the front door. In the midst of a Boulder summer heat wave with daily temperatures in the high 90's, we were able to stay cool and comfortable, due to a whole-house-fan cooling system. The cottage was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped -- kitchen, living area, big screened porch, large bedroom, and cozy bathroom. The park was blessedly quiet day and night, and we could hear the crickets after dark. We could have stayed all summer...

“Excellent stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 April 2010

We stayed here for 6 nights in March and had a wonderful stay. Our lodge was an Efficiency Lodge - porch front and back, large room with bed and table / chairs, bathroom and separate kitchen. We had a great stay. The lodge was clean and quiet. Well equipped and had good heating (still plenty of snow when we were there).
If you want a fully serviced plush hotel, this is not for you. If you are looking for a cosy, rural stay, this is well worth considering. We'd certainty want to go back if we had the opportunity.

“My most favorite place ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2010

The cottages at Chautauqua are all extremely charming and appealing. You can walk out your door and be in the meadow heading to the mountains instantly! Being from the midwest, to sit on the porch of the restaurant for breakfast or dinner and look at the mountains is reason enough for me to stay there. I travel with several teenagers, who, incredibly love this place, too...no tv, they think of it as a place to curl up with a book. Go figure! Dogs are welcome in some cottages. An extra is the rehearsals and performances in the performance hall, with open sides, you get the hear the music whether you attend or not. Last summer we happened to stay while Joan Baez was performing, fun!

“It couldn't get any better.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2009

We rented Cottage 311. It's a 3 bedroom cottage w/ 2 baths. The cottage was clean and comfortable. We had no problem getting extra paper products or clean towels from the housekeeping office.

The entire Chautauqua grounds are absolutely beautiful, and quite well utilized. You may find people just lying in the grass soaking up the sun, or enjoying the labelled gardens. The hikers are everywhere as there are at least two trailheads right off the parking lot. The night of the musical concert, we were not disrupted at all even though we were right down the lane from the concern auditoreum.

The "Dining Hall" was a short walk from our cabin. The food was delicious buy overpriced.

“No sterile hotel rooms here”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2009

I was in Boulder for only one night and as a woman traveling alone, I found the Chautauqua Cottages and adjacent park an appealing and safe place to stay. The cottages are quaint and comfortable and are renovated to a modern standard. I stayed in cottage #603 and loved the screened in porch. I arrived to the property at 5:30pm and was on a nearby trail by 6:00pm. A fellow jogger on the trail suggested I hike out to Royal Arch. It was a perfect intro to the area and a beautiful reward for a demanding hike. Chautauqua is only about 1.5 miles from downtown Boulder (Pearl/Walnut Streets), but it is a world away. I enjoyed breakfast at the Dining Hall the next morning, and the staff were kind enough to grant me a late check out that day. A perfect place to stay if you enjoy the great outdoors and prefer a unique, affordable cottage versus a sterile hotel room. Not many services or amenities to speak of, but the grounds, community and nearby hiking trails made for a memorable experience. Learning about the history of Chautauqua and viewing the many historical photos on display was also a treat.
