“Great place for Christmas”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

We stayed here over Christmas, looking for a White Christmas experience. Unfortunately the weather let us down as there was only minimal snow around but enough man made snow for the kids to taboggan down the hill.

The resort staff were extremely helpful - allowing us to change our booking at the last minute and swap rooms to a larger one that suited us better. The Christmas buffett dinner was beautiful and delicous and the Santa event on Christmas Eve made it really feel like Christmas - important when you are far from home.

The Cedar Pub meals and service were barely acceptable which was disappointing.

Overall we had a great stay.

Room Tip: As the townhouses are individually owned it may be worthwhile asking for a modern, updated one.

“Long term view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

Have only been to Granlibakken four times in either the fall or winter: '95, '99, '02, and '12. Rooms: comfortable; grounds and views: nice; food: outstanding; staff: outstanding. All visits were for conferences.

Room Tip: Food quality and service were second to none.

“A very disappointing Christmas”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

We are on our final day of a four day stay at Granlibakken. We booked this for our family Christmas. The fact that there is no snow this year is not the fault of the resort; but their 30 day cancellation policy made it impossible for us to change our plans when it was evident there would be no snow.
At almost $500 per night for four of us, this very small room with kitchen was a great disappointment. Everything is very dated. The included breakfast has nothing on hotel chain free breakfasts. We have discovered nothing that makes us feel better about the $500 per night cost. This place may have its charm, but it is certainly not worth the price.

“The 70's called...they want their furniture back”

As others have mentioned, this place has the original hard-used fixtures in their rooms, but the rooms are clean. It is also seriously plumming challenged, and the bathroom counter was ridiculously low (I'm short, and it hit between my knee and crotch). But, how much time do you plan on spending in the room? This is an area that begs to be investigated, so the rooms aren't a deal killer. If they were updated, I would give the place a solid 4 stars/

After hearing that it was the next thing to skiing in your backyard, I expected it to be much smaller. There are a number of buildings with rooms, a pool, tennis courts-just like a real resort. It is easily accessible, a beautiful location, and the staff were great.

The best part was the food. Everything was fresh and made in-house, even the potato chips. The chef did not skimp on quality or quantity. The breakfasts included blintzez (yummy), fresh rolls and fruit, and other breakfast staples. Meals were better than many restaurants.

“Comfortable rooms, great food, near the lake”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

I was there for a conference in late September and it was perfect for the needs of the group. The rooms were nice although somewhat small (certainly not luxurious) and the beds were very comfortable. I stayed in a town home and it was nice to have a little extra common space. The food for the conference was the best I've had with lots of vegetarian and vegan options although I'm neither. They had the staff to handle large groups and there was always someone to help with a random key issue. It is older but the grounds are beautiful and really close to the lake and other activities. As far as the conference they were set up perfectly for it, lots of technical help, large areas for congregating, always on top of the gallons of coffee an tea we were going through. The granlibakken was by far the most charming conference site I've been to. Enjoy.
