This is an ok kids museum-- does not compare AT ALL to the kids museum in San Jose in that it is very "rustic" and not polished, and offers far less.

For older kids, the Exploratorium in SF is MUCH better--- it too is kind of rustic. But, the Exploratorium seems to have a lot more.

This museum seems like the kind of thing you would see put together as a neighborhood museum or in a small town (e.g. in Kauai there is a kids museum that is very small--- this one is not that much bigger or better).

So, kids have fun but it is pretty basic and "rough" around the edges.

The layout is also wierd- many different buildings that you have to walk between.

The best parts are outdoors- the playground and gardens. That is the only part that is really notable.

And, the views of SF and the bridge are incredible--- the setting is what makes this place unique and standout. If it were in a nondescript location I think it would be far less visited.

Liked the varied attractions for the kids.
Cafe was ho- hum!

What could be better than taking a boat (ferry) to charming Sausalito and finding the greatest, cleanest, most engaging kids museum ever at the foot of the golden gate bridge! Even in foggy weather, it was tremendous!

We visited on a Sunday in early September. The crowd wasn't bad. The facility is a mix of indoor and outdoor so it is better to pick a nice weather day. The view of the adjacent Golden Gate is unbeatable. However the museum itself is fairly small. Just a few display and a playground. If your child is 2 then they will likely have lots of fun, but if they are even a little bit older there is not too much to do. Worse is that they charge you full price ($11) for every adult and child - thus even a family of 3 costs $33...wow! That is practically discount amusement park pricing! We'll stick with Sacramento's Fairy Tale town next time which is a lot cheaper and a winner with our son.
