The Ambrose is a user-friendly hotel, with easy parking, attractive Craftsman decor, and an included breakfast which is better than what most hotels serve. It is not near the beach, but is very convenient to mid-town Santa Monica restaurants, Montana Avenue, and Bergamot Station. To get this quality of hotel in a more touristed area, you'd pay much more. Next time, if we want to be right "in the thick of it," we'll try one of the hotels near the ocean, but The Ambrose can't be beat in Santa Monica for the price.

They were extremely rude unwelcoming messed up the reservation after we had called and confirmed yet when we arrived the next day apparently it was unconfirmed. We checked out after only one night. Don't even think about staying there.

We just spent a wonderful weekend at the Ambrose with our little dog Sadie. The hotel is wonderful. The staff are perfect and the accommodations are comfortable. The organic breakfast and lovely outdoor seating area with a water feature was so soothing and peaceful. The beds were very comfortable and we had a wonderful time.

The Ambrose is in an older building, but has been updated with careful design from the lobby to the rooms. My room on the 3rd floor was a tad darker than I'm used to because newer hotels use floor-to-ceiling windows. Otherwise, it was perfectly decoration, appointed, and spotlessly clean. Everything seemed new and fresh right down to the caulking in the shower (which bugs me when it's moldy). The AC was loud, but i like that since I run a white noise machine at home. Comfortable bed. Nice TV (but no pay-per-view movies if you care about that- i don't). Free parking. Free internet. Free continental breakfast with fresh strawberries, Stonyfield yogurt, expensive muffins and croissants (even almond!), and Starbucks coffee. Pleasant staff and nice and quiet overall. A great value and nice place to stay.
