We stayed one night at the Delta King on a US road trip from San Francisco to Las Vegas, and were really looking forward to a quirky choice of accommodation. Great location in the heart of Old Sac - valet parking right outside meant we could dump the car easily before heading 'onboard'. Given a room at the end of the corridor on the same deck as reception - very very small, but initially we didn't mind as we thought it added to the charm of staying on the boat.
The main issue during our very short stay was noise, and lots of it. Firstly from the 'emergency exit' swinging door outside our room, which led from the restaurant area. This was used through the night by staff presumably, and woke us up the next morning. Secondly you could hear chatting from reception just along the corridor. The last and worst cause of noise was a disco from a function room below - this was still blaring past 10 o'clock so I went to reception to see what was happening. Although very apologetic and after assuring me it was meant to stop, the loud music continued a short while after, and it was closer to 11 o'clock before all the noise stopped - it needed us to contact reception another few times by phone, meaning an early night was out of the question. The next morning we were woke up by the swinging door...
Breakfast was included and was had in the main restaurant, but this was a nightmare as the room was dominated by a very loud group of bikers (?) - we moved tables without asking having initially been put right next to them. We couldn't wait to finish our breakfast which was a shame as it was good. Turned out they were the ones having the disco last night...
We checked out and weren't even asked how our stay was - had the receptionist enquired we would have relayed all of the above to her, but there was no interest. Maybe we were unlucky with the noise, but the hotel really needs to consider whether it's a function venue or a proper hotel - in such a confined space you just can't have both discos and guest rooms and keep everyone happy.
Room Tip: Avoid the same floor as reception (especially near the swinging door) - go for the highest floor pos...
