My husband and I decided to have a "staycation" and stay in one of our local "luxury" hotels for the night. It was the first time for both of us. Booked online and arrived around 7 pm. Check in was easy and the hotel was nice, if a bit old (although that is one of the things people stay here for). The room was nice and comfortable.
The issues we had were in regards to the service we received and the food. Decided to try the "wine bar" for a glass of wine around 9 pm that evening. I waited for about 10 minutes before I was acknowledged. There was a woman pouring wine for servers and talking to them during this time. The place was pretty empty and I was the only one at the bar. I am not sure why it took her so long to acknowledge me, but it was very offputting.
The other service issue was in regards to a seemingly simple request. The next morning after breakfast, we decided to try to bring our son and hang out by the pool for a couple of hours (assuming he would even last that long, my son is 21 months old). We went to the front desk around 10:30 and asked the woman behind the counter when check out was (noon) and if we could use the pool beyond check out (we live about 20 minutes away)....My husband and I decided to have a "staycation" and stay in one of our local "luxury" hotels for the night. We went to the front desk around 10:30 and asked the woman behind the counter when check out was (noon) and if we could use the pool beyond check out (we live about 20 minutes away). She turned to the man behind her (I assume he was the manager on duty) and said "It is up to you." He in turn, explained to us that once we check out we would no longer be guests of the hotel and could not use the pool. Although this is somewhat "above and beyond," it appears that it was at the manger's discretion and for some reason he chose to deny this simple request. This exchange really left a "bad taste in my mouth" in regards to the Mission Inn.
One side note. We only ate one meal in the hotel, breakfast. We had breakfast at the Mission Inn Restaurant. I ordered a breakfast burrito and my husband ordered the "Misson" - eggs, hashbrowns, bacon, and toast. The food (particularly the hashbrowns) was bland and tasteless and my husband's eggs were not cooked correctly (he ordered over medium and one of the two eggs was over hard). Seriously? It wasn't like we ordered anything special.
Probably won't ever go back and I definately would not recommend staying here.More
