This makes my second stay in a month, this time we rented two rooms, one for my 81 yr. old mother who was just out of the hospital, and still recovering from deadly pneumonia (the well pump at her home broke, so we needed a place to stay for a couple nights while it was repaired). After a spate of noisy, dirty motels in and around Red Bluff and Corning (stayed in while my mother was in the hospital, as we are from out of town) this place seemed like a quiet and decent choice.
The first stay wasn't bad, though the room and bathroom could have been cleaner. I specifically asked for a quiet room (mainly due to lack of sleep at other local motels I'd stayed at in the area), but then, the clerk booked two large families with young children on each side of me. It seemed to me, with the many rooms (70/80?) here, she could have easily put them elsewhere, but no. I think they like to bunch the room rentals together for easier cleaning the next day, customer requests notwithstanding.
This second stay has been a complete disaster. I am writing this after being awakened at 2:45 am by drunken cowboys pounding on the door next door, and then pounding on MY glass patio door shortly after that. My aged and ill mother was in a room on the other side of them, with me on the other, and heard all of this as well. Wonderful.
It seems as if the clerk has purposely rented the room to noisy, drunken, people, perhaps because I had earlier complained about the heating here. Neither my mother's room (she, just getting over a nearly lethal case of pneumonia), nor mine, were adequately warm, and the heaters are noisy, and antiquated. They also have a motion sensor on them, so unless you are moving around, they blow cool air, even when it's rainy and cold outside. Never seen anything like it. In their zeal to save a dollar here, they have removed the right of their guests to keep themselves at a comfortable temperature. In all my years of travel, nationally, and internationally, I have never seen such a thing.
With all the noise, and with the drunks pounding on my glass patio door, I called the front desk and told them they better get someone down here before someone got hurt. No one came. Not surprising, given the rest. This has been a disaster stay in every way, in a disaster of a property.
Add, the TV in my room has a green tint throughout all channels, and is not user adjustable, the refrigerator does not work in this room, and again, the heater is blowing cold air. Wonderful. Not! The clerk also wanted to charge me a total of $40 more for two adjoining rooms rooms, saying those rooms had two beds in each room, so they charge more for them, even though the extra bed would not used! Even Motel 6 does not do this! The defective logic of such a proposition is ridiculous and apparent. but apparently not to the clerk, who simply wanted to get as much money out of us as she could.
In summary, perhaps better management, putting in true, user controlled heating and cooling, and a complete updating and cleaning of the place, might make this a decent property, but I don't see that happening. This is a franchise operation, and is not owned by Wyndam/Travelodge.
Here it is, after 4:30am now, and the drunken cowboys are still making noise. I was able to get only 3.5 hours sleep. I think a call to the Chamber of Commerce, and to Travelodge corporate franchise headquarters (they should have their franchise agreement terminated) is in order, among other things, not to mention passing the word on the internet so other will not have to suffer as we have.
