“Good value if you can get a deal but don't pay rack rate.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 April 2010

Our room overlooked the pool which was nice but the carpet was worn and coming apart. The phone in the bedroom did not work, nor did the clock radio as there was something wrong with the wiring - don't even look down behind the bed - it was filthy so obviously it hadn't been pulled out and vacuumed for a while. The phone in the living room was not working because it was unplugged and when I reached for the cable to plug it in, it was entangled in a stale, half full bottle of beer soaking on the carpet so that room had not been cleaned properly either - who knows how long the beer was on the floor. Some of the front desk staff seem a bit indifferent - I asked if the hotel had recycling and she said she didn't know nor did she offer to find out...

The hotel is well situated and very quiet however we were there during the week and on Friday when we were leaving a large group of young women checked in and were very noisy around the pool so I'm guessing it gets very noisy over the weekends.

It was a good deal and I would only stay there again if the same deal was offered.

“My very low expectations were greatly exceeded!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 March 2010

After reading several negative reviews, I looked forward to my stay at the Marquis Villas Resort with very low expectations. But, my low expectations were greatly exceeded! I was extremely pleased with many aspects of our stay at the resort. The room was very clean and HUGE with a nice patio area looking out towards the pool. Yes, the appliances and furniture were a bit outdated, but they suited us just fine - especially with 2 young children who are into everything. The staff were all extremely accommodating and polite. The pool area was very clean and well kept - dated, yes... but, very quiet and relaxing. The short walking distance to downtown was awesome.
I gathered during my stay there that the rooms are in different stages of being updated and that the nicer rooms are reserved for the vacation club members (which we are). Our room had a newer refrigerator - but I noticed that it was the Kirkland (costco) brand... so, the resort obviously doesn't have a ton of extra money to make the appliances high end.
If you are looking for a 5-star luxury, beautiful, trendy, elegant resort, this is not the place for you. But, if you are looking for a very clean, spacious, no-frills affordable place to stay in a great location, you won't be disappointed!

“Excellent Value!”

Highly recommended! But shop the price.

We did a lot of online research before booking our stay. And we read both the very good and the very bad reviews. - Based on the reviews, we booked with an attitude of rolling the dice.

Our stay was a delight! Our room (113) was huge, very clean, and well equipped. The service was totally fine. And our rate was a super deal. - I think some who complained may have paid the rack rate, which is high. But for $88 per night, plus $10 per day resort fee, it's a good deal.

The pool was clean and warm. A highlight of our stay! There were no drunks or disorderly individuals, as some reviewers complained about. Plenty of towels. Although we did not use the bbq grills, I made a point to ask people who were using them how they were. - They were just fine.

The location is outstanding. The views superb.

Our room had a huge patio. It did face the entry courtyard to the property, but we didn't mind since we got a great rate and because the neighborhood is very quiet.

A minor criticism - the furniture in the room was outdated (but in good repair). The couch was small compared to the scale of the room. But just fine for the two of us.

As for the restaurants we tried, we can heartily recommend Sherman's deli right next to the resort. Our breakfasts came from there and we also had one lunch and one dinner. The bagels are good (by west coast standards) - but the lox will make you smile. Like butter!

We found a lot of mediocrity in the rest of the restaurant scene. Peppers Thai was good. If you're a beer fan, the Hair of the Dog has Boddington's on tap. No food, but delightful, crusty locals.

“Don't expect too much”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2009

We stayed for 2 nights during a recent trip. The hotel is centrally located near downtown Palm Springs. It is walking distance to the main strip. The hotel has a gated underground parking with luggage trolleys (convenient). The hotel was not very busy and we got parking near the elevators. The folks working the registration are helpful.

The hotel itself looks modern on the outside but is old on the inside, and did not seem to be well-maintained. It takes a long time for hot water to get to our sink and showers. The furnishings, kitchen, and appliances are probably 10+ years-old. The units had two small 19 or 21-inch TVS. We ate out and didn't stay in the room too long so the kitchen and furnishings didn't bother us too much. The worse part though were the mattresses and bedding were very uncomfortable and the rooms were super cold. We had to crank up the heat before going to bed to warm up the hotel room. I don't think the building is very well insulated. When I got up in the morning, the unit was 61 degrees.

Next time I will try another place.
