Coming into Pacific Grove late on a Fridayafternoon in March without a reservation, we saw a few No Vacancy signs, and were happy to find space at Bide-A-Wee. There was no multi-night stay requirement for the weekend, maybe because it was so late in the day.

The room was a nice surpise, spacious and clean with a fireplace and a mini-kitchen. The grounds are lovely, and the location a block from the beach is great. It is also good that Asilomar is not busy and the middle units are far from traffic noise of the other streets. There is a bit of a hideaway feel to it. Continental breakfast is pretty common stuff, but handy.

Upon entering Asilomar, it looked a little trashy I have to admit but the rooms were very nice and cosy. No views whatsoever its a good couple blocks from any oceanfront. And ours were between 2 other rooms... kind of like a motel. But the rooms and bathroom was very roomy. Loved the fireplace.
Bedding quality (comforters, pillows) could be better but this was a 3rd night of our magnificent trip so we were tired and really didnt care much about anything other than a hot shower and a clean bed.

Had rm 118 May '08, rm 102 Oct '08, and rms 120 and 102 Feb '10. Mid season and off season rates were reasonable for what we got. Spent a week in 118. It may have been a little small but we only slept there. Spent a week in 102 both times and it was great. A bit rainy of course in Feb. but that's why the cottage was good. Love the windows for light and air, the kitchenette for cooking, the fireplace for heat and ambiance at night and the seperate bedroom for napping when my husband wanted to watch tv or use the laptop. The continental breakfast was just that. Bread, coffee, tea, juice, hot chocolate and fruit. You don't need a dining area when there's no eggs, meats, cereals, etc. We switched it up each day (different breads, fruits, drinks) and had great breakfasts in the room. Scramble some eggs and brocolli in the micro and add beans and sliced tomatoes. Being former campers we're pretty handy with things and easy to please. We love eating on the deck and watching the deer. We love being a block from the beach. We love sightseeing and shopping in Monterey, Pacific Grove, Carmel, Big Sur. And don't miss Tessuti's Zoo in Pacific Grove! Great shops, eateries, experiences all over the bay! My husband's from Oahu which is beautiful but our favorite vacation spots are here and Ogunquit, ME. Yes, we're glad our first experience w/B-A-W was good and that's why we keep coming back. We thought Jen was great when she worked here and now we absolutely love Amy !!! whose new this year. I found B-A-W on line but I make all our reservations over the phone. In my experiences thru the years it's always made a difference for the better. Trusting in the Lord has always made a difference for us as well. We're thankful for all the wonderful memories we have of B-A-W and the California coast. P.S. Check dates on reviews as well. Changes take place all the time. For now, we still LOVE the Bide-A-Wee!! Room 102 - our home away from home. Room 118/120 when we just need sleep from all our adventuring.

My sister and our husbands used to visit the Bide a Wee twice a year, for the 4th of July and on New Year's Eve. Since the new owners took over about a year or 2 ago, we no longer visit. Too bad, because the Bide a Wee was awesome...great location, dependable service, clean rooms, dog friendly, reasonable prices. Now the new owners require a multiple night stay and have jacked up the prices so high that we go elsewhere. Service is mediocre at best. For the money you pay here, you can stay at much nicer inns.
