“Stunning ocean views with lots for kids to do”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I just returned from a week at the Newport Coast Villas, with a total of five people, three adults and two children and we had a wonderful time. To my surprise, the pools were heated well so that we could swim, even in Jan/Feb and there were lots of activities in the kids club (many were free). I was annoyed that they don't clean your room even once during the week (which is standard at all other non-Marriott timeshares) but the otherwise great service and truly stunning surroundings and ocean views made up for that one annoyance. Someone noted that the pull-out couches were bad but I have to totally disagree. Maybe we were in a newer or refurbished unit but we used both of the pull-outs in our unit and it was a new and unique design that was made of some type of foam mattress (it pulled out in three sections like an accordion) and everyone in the family agreed that they were absolutely the most comfortable pull-out beds we had ever used.

They also e-mailed me ahead of time to ask for a room request and since I new that it was such a huge complex of buildings I asked for an ocean-view room in a building that was also close to the main pool and kids club. They gave me a 3rd floor room in the 3900 bldg and it did have a spectacular view (I couldn't believe how beautiful the sunsets were and it was so clear we could see the lights on Catalina island in the evening) it was very close to the pool, playground (which includes a regular playground, the fire pit, basketball, a putting green, tether ball, and a sand pit with toys for your kids) and the kids activity center. If you have kids and don't want to walk far I would recommend that 3900 bldg or the 3800 next door.

We also drove to the Science Museum in Santa Ana, which was an easy drive, great fun for the kids and free since they accepted our membership cards from our local museum! We did take advantage of the HWY 73 toll road because it was just so convenient if you are driving north to any of the activities, amusement parks or airport in North Orange County or continuing on to LA. I felt that the $2.25 toll was well worth saving time, no traffic and not wasting the same money on gas (and don't worry if you don't have exact change as they have a machine to accept larger bills)!

It was an altogether great resort. The pools were well heated and we enjoyed swimming in them and also going to the beach. It was a relaxing, great vacation and I would definitely return.

Room Tip: The 3800 and 3900 bldgs are close to the main activity and pool complex and if you get a room on the...

“Very Nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Stayed here in January with Family. First off, the general grounds are impeccably maintained. The area is actually more beautiful in person. Pictures do not do it justice. There are some beautiful outdoor gas grills scattered throughout the complex. There are plently of nice grassy nooks with chairs to just sit and gaze off into the pacific. The gym facilities were adequate, and could be crowded at times. The pool was very nice, but a bit cold (it was January). Never had any problems getting a chair by the pool or a chair anywhere. They have some decent happy hour specials at the pool bar. Nice place to watch the sunset. We walked from our unit down to crystal cove beach. A nice 15 minute walk to get the beach. In terms of the unit, they are spacious enough. The master bathroom having the sinks open to the bedroom area was sort of strange. I really enjoyed the huge shower with the nozzles on either side of the shower. The beds were extremely comfortable and linens above average. There was no light on the patio, which was strange (bring some candles and set the mood). There were not a lot of dining options on site, but there is a general store that has a lot of pre-made items, and you can order food at the pool area. The food was actually really good. Overall, the place reminded me of an upscale condo complex with a few extra amenities. Completely worth it is you are traveling with a group or with children.

“Lovely place to stay!”

Our family of four, including two teenagers, enjoyed our 4-night stay in a two bedroom suite. But we have a daughter and a son, so one had to sleep on the sofabed, which had a terrible mattress. You know the bed is bad when a teenager says it's bad!

Other than that, the suite was lovely, and the property is very conveniently located, within walking distance to a beach. I would stay there again, but not if we bring both kids, because I wouldn't want one of them to have to sleep on that awful sofabed again. They really, really need to update those sofabeds.

“Beautiful views and friendly staff.”

Stayed here the week of January 15, 2012 in a 2 bedroom suite. Lots of room, clean with a lovely view. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the amenities were top notch. The only complaint I have is that the hideaway bed mattress is terrible, would not even be comfortable for a child. Would definately stay again.

“Great location, great suite, great facilities, it's great”

This is a terrific facility. It is well located, situated with an unrestricted ocean view, modern, well furnished, and very well maintained.
We had a two bedroom, two bath, suite. There were three of us but as many as five or possibly six could have been accommodated adequately.
The exercise facilities, pools and grounds are universally superior.
A slight complaint; there is no on site restaurant but many are nearby.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor (fourth floor max) and an ocean view.
