The bedspread was dirty. The closets had no hangers. The room was old and small. We were dissatisfied with the facilities, but they refused to give us a refund. We have never left a motel because of the facilities, but we didn't feel comfortable staying here, so we went to another motel, where they actually gave us a discount because of our experience here.

We stayed here two nights whilst visiting Monterey during our stay in San Francisco. We booked it online before we left our son's, had transport to the door from the company we had booked the Amtrak through. A very clean room, good continental breakfast, television, good shower room with separate wash room with basin - very useful.

The only disadvantage which is nothing really, is that it is out of Montery on Fremont Street which is absolutely fine if you are in a car (as it is a motel) but we were on shanks pony! so had to get the bus down into town but that worked out OK.

The only bad thing about this place is the rooms are pretty small, (unless you book the room in the picture) but we were only here one night so it wasn't so much of a problem that I'd give this place a bad review. The service was excellent, lovely guy Neal on reception, makes all the difference in comparison with the last couple of places we stayed where they could barely manage a smile. We arrived by 11am and our room was already ready for us. The pool has been closed down but again didn't bother us. Free internet and breakfast which was great. Microwave and fridge in the room, and our TV was fine. Monterey is a really lovely area, you shouldn't need to spend much time in your room anyway. It's a standard independent roadside motel, don't expect too much from it, or just go to one of the chain ones.

Never do last minuts reservation in this area... I went to this hotel by default. The room was small and badly maintained. I had hairs in the bedsheets. The walls were paper thin (fortunately I had quiet neighbors). No electric plugs so I had to use my PC in the (very small) toilets. Never again
