First impression, a hotel with too many bell staff hogging to "assist" you at the door even when you only had a small carry-on with wheels and a purse. Sure, so they "show" you the room as if you've never been to a hotel and stick around to make sure you are satisfied, until you take out a bill from the pocket will they leave.
Room: interior nothing too spectacular. The bath room with both tub and shower is quite nice and spacious. But also makes the rest of the room look like its from another hotel. Our room was located on the 3rd floor with window looking directly out at the hotel's decorative exterior.. not the greatest view. Plus with the curtain being few ft away from the window..odd. Never mind the looks, but for the first two nights, me and my friend already noticed we were not alone, but occupied by other flying friends as well. We simply ignored it because it was late and we were tired, and had to wake early to help prep for another friend's wedding. However, on the last evening returning to the hotel, I couldn't believe I found a DEAD MOSQUITO on my pillow. It was nothing too small either! Again, we were too tired to make a fuzz which would probably have cut into our few hrs' nap already. I ended up waking up with five extremely unattractive and very noticeable mosquito bites on my face and forehead. I informed the concierge and showed them my face, and they simply gave me an insincere apology and said will have someone "look into" it.
To my knowledge, of the many hotels I've stayed at, they always do follow-up's if/when problems occur. No follow-up's, no calls, no emails. So ended up I had to send in a comment form myself.
Facility: Tempted by the pictures, I wanted to check out the gym and spa. But to my surprise, I was pretty much ignored for a full 5 minutes, with no help offered. The staffs were just happily chatting away. They gave me one quick glance, seeing that I'm looking into the brochure and they quickly went back to their conversation. No introduction, no offers of help or explanation. Great service there.
Overall: Visiting LA, most people would drive, so there isn't a really inconvenient location depends on ur itinerary. What's good with Sofitel LA, is there's a mall right across and only a few minutes drive from all the shopping and excitements. Just be ready for the heavy traffic all around during rush hrs. Taking side roads can be an option. For the same price, I'm sure better service in similar location can be found. I'm not sure if I want pay this particular Sofitel another visit. Disappointing..
