“Great People. Great Location. Great Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

My husband & I arrived at 9am after a 14 flight from Australia. We assumed we would have to drop our bags and come back at check in time later in the afternoon. However they just checked us in, no problems! The rooms are nice, clean and comfortable. Probably not 5 star standard though.
Location is directly opposite a large shopping centre and within walking distance of most of the wanted Hollywood attractions.
We ate at Simon's restaurant and the food & service where fantastic although a bit pricey.
All in all a good experience. A nice & convenient place to pass through probably not to vacation for any length of time though.

“Exceeded all Expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

This is a lovely hotel, without doubt the best Sofitel I’ve stayed in. Great location, right across from endless shopping opportunities at the Beverly Centre, with West Hollywood’s wide array of restaurants and bars not far at all. It’s a stylish hotel but manages to find the right balance of comfort, the rooms are very nice, with the fabulous Sofitel beds and fantastic showers. Loved the bar, it seems to attract some of that ‘LA scene’ crowd but the staff were still very relaxed and friendly. The porters and reception staff were efficient yet very welcoming and friendly, and thankfully there was no pretentiousness at all (which unfortunately I’ve seen in the staff at a few other Sofitels). All up very happy with this hotel.

“If you get a good deal, it's a good hotel”

In my opinion prices, on average, are too high for this hotel. The reno was done 9 yrs ago. So it feels relatively new but it's still got low-ish ceilings that make it feel cavelike, not matter how light they paint the walls. My room faced the beverly ctr mall. Was relatively quiet, corner room, but small. Bathroom had a huge rain shower but no tub. Would have been tight if I was there with anyone else. Was no room for a crib.
Weather was too cold for me to check out the pool facilities.
Staff seemed nice and helpful. Free internet on hotel computers in the lobby or you can pay for wifi in your room.
Overall it was perfect for my business stay. Wouldn't go back with family unless I got a much bigger room. I liked the location. BUT again, it's expensive for what you get.

“This Sofitel doesn't live up to the brand”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

I'm a big fan of Sofitel hotels (particularly in Europe) and liked this one's central location (used to live nearby so know the neighborhood). It was an okay stay. Service was competent (a previous reviewer noted that there were a surprising lot of bell staff and I have to agree) and the food in the restaurant was just outstanding, everything, from breakfast (where you served a delicious, complimentary mini-smoothie) to lunch (fantastic pizza) to cocktails on the ingenuously designed outdoor patio that almost makes you forget you're at the crossroads of two massive L.A. boulevards.

The nightclub/bar, which is adjacent, frankly looked like something from the early 1980s, and was rather creepy, anything but enticing.

Our room was just so-so. First room I was given was tiny, with a shower-only bathroom (I'm a regular Sofitel customer and I don't understand why I was given a crappy room to begin with when clearly there were other, better rooms in my price category). To its credit Sofitel moved quickly when I asked for a bathroom with tub, and the second room, along the same corridor, was much larger. Pleasant but unexceptional with one particularly oddity: There was no headboard and a framed print was placed where your head would rest if you were reading in bed. Literally the framed hit the middle of the back of my head. Bizarre and uncomfortable.

The bathroom was adequate but nothing special, even with the aforementioned bath, which was one of those 1970s models that's shallow.

The view was terrible -- we looked out on the Beverly Center parking lot. Depressing.

I don't think I'll go back to this hotel again -- there are too many better options for the same money in L.A. It reminds of the Miami airport Sofitel, which also could use a cash infusion. But the big difference is that at the airport the pickings are slim. Here, not so much.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the other side of the hotel from Beverly Center.

“Nice but dirty room, 3* service with 5* price tag”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

First impression, a hotel with too many bell staff hogging to "assist" you at the door even when you only had a small carry-on with wheels and a purse. Sure, so they "show" you the room as if you've never been to a hotel and stick around to make sure you are satisfied, until you take out a bill from the pocket will they leave.

Room: interior nothing too spectacular. The bath room with both tub and shower is quite nice and spacious. But also makes the rest of the room look like its from another hotel. Our room was located on the 3rd floor with window looking directly out at the hotel's decorative exterior.. not the greatest view. Plus with the curtain being few ft away from the window..odd. Never mind the looks, but for the first two nights, me and my friend already noticed we were not alone, but occupied by other flying friends as well. We simply ignored it because it was late and we were tired, and had to wake early to help prep for another friend's wedding. However, on the last evening returning to the hotel, I couldn't believe I found a DEAD MOSQUITO on my pillow. It was nothing too small either! Again, we were too tired to make a fuzz which would probably have cut into our few hrs' nap already. I ended up waking up with five extremely unattractive and very noticeable mosquito bites on my face and forehead. I informed the concierge and showed them my face, and they simply gave me an insincere apology and said will have someone "look into" it.

To my knowledge, of the many hotels I've stayed at, they always do follow-up's if/when problems occur. No follow-up's, no calls, no emails. So ended up I had to send in a comment form myself.

Facility: Tempted by the pictures, I wanted to check out the gym and spa. But to my surprise, I was pretty much ignored for a full 5 minutes, with no help offered. The staffs were just happily chatting away. They gave me one quick glance, seeing that I'm looking into the brochure and they quickly went back to their conversation. No introduction, no offers of help or explanation. Great service there.

Overall: Visiting LA, most people would drive, so there isn't a really inconvenient location depends on ur itinerary. What's good with Sofitel LA, is there's a mall right across and only a few minutes drive from all the shopping and excitements. Just be ready for the heavy traffic all around during rush hrs. Taking side roads can be an option. For the same price, I'm sure better service in similar location can be found. I'm not sure if I want pay this particular Sofitel another visit. Disappointing..
