This is a basic motel. i get that. But it felt very uncared for and that it was being milked for every penny it could earn its owners without spending a dollar on it.
Worse was the whole reception situation. I tried to call the hotel on many occasions in the days before i arrived. no answerphone, no messgae, the call jut would ring out.
Reception is permanently closed. If you need assistance in any form or to deal with reception, you have to press a buzzer. I only ever once saw one person working there - day and night - and herein may be the problem. She looked exhausted, and any time you went to reception you felt like you had caused considerble inconvenience. The rooms - basic - smelly, virtually no facilities beyond a fridge, a microwave and might I add a very good line up of TV stations. I had an accessable bathroom which could have accommodated a football team it was so big, but sparse and the shower fittings all needed new washers as water sprayed from every join. the bed was mighty uncomfiortable, and the largely synthetic sheets created a great static electricity light show whenever you moved. The air conditioning unit was so noisy, I had to switch it off regularly. In the communal areas, there was plastic furniture which had not been cleaned since purchase, and the swimming pool had been filled in and covered in astro-turf. the biggest p[roblem was reception. it was a chaotic mess. It smelt. It did not serve its purpose. I needed to iron some shirts, there two or three irons available, 1 available ironing board which was broken, and when i asked if there was another I just got a shrug of the reception lady's shoulders. The drinks vending machine had it's $1 note accepting facilities disabled with a written notice "see reception for change" - this would then involve ringing the buzzer again and waiting for the jaded receptionist to appear. Check out was set for 11am each day. i asked for an extension until 12.30 on my day of departure as I had a 12.30 lunch, hadn't slept and could have done with rest - I offered to pay 25% of the nightly rate for the privilege. I was told absolutely not as the room had to be cleaned as next night guests could start arriving at 1pm. The truth is - it was just an 11am rule which was being held steadfastly for the sake of it. At 11am on the dot, staff beat on my door like a bailiff and told me in no uncertain terms it was time to leave. I went to my meeting I returned and waited in the courtyard (for collection) at 2pm. My room was only beimg serviced/cleaned at that time. The housekeeping staff by comparison were delightful. The complimentary muffins, pastries and coffee in the mornings was a nice touch but again it meant ringing that damn reception bell and waiting for the door to be buzzed open. A bit of tender loving care, a spring clean, some new aircon units, a tidied reception area which is truly OPEN and someone behind the desk whom doesn't permanently look "pissed off" and like you have just disturbed their daytime TV viewing every time you need the services of hotel staff. i tried to be nice, i tried to give the benefit of the doubt, i tried to engage in conversation, but alas, she just was not interested.
