We stayed here on a layover on our way to Hawaii. It was cheap, clean and actually pretty nice. The neighborhood isn't great, but not terrible either. They also have a free airport shuttle.

We often stay here when we need to be near LAX overnight, either on our way to the US or on our way back to Australia. It’s not expensive and it’s a decent hotel for what you pay. Some rooms are nicer and quieter than others, and there is one side of the hotel (across from the reception, I think), which is definitely quieter. The breakfast is the usual sugar-laden affair typical of Comfort Inns. They also have boiled eggs and fresh fruit, such as bananas and apples/oranges, as well as a variety of breads, so you can skip the sweetest cereals if they’re not to your taste. When we first stayed there, we were able to leave a suitcase with them for 10 days and pick it up upon our return, but on our last visit they no longer allowed that, which was disappointing.

The area around the hotel is not one of the best: we were told not to go out on foot at night by our LA friends, and during the day it’s an longish and uninteresting walk to the scarce restaurants and shopping centres nearby. Hawthorne is definitely no Santa Monica, but then the room rate reflects that. Also, make sure to allow a good 20-30 minutes to reach the airport, especially if you need to travel during rush hour.

Overall, we were pretty satisfied every time we stayed here and we will almost certainly be back the next time we need to overnight near the airport.

The surrounding neighborhood doesn't look like somewhere you'd like to browse around, but it is surrounded by several hotels and the parking is in a locked structure. The hotel itself is very inviting with the rooms encircling a swimming pool. All rooms are accessed by interior corridors. The hotel seemed brand new - perhaps it was - with all modern amenities. My family and I had an early flight, so we couldn't take advantage of the free breakfast. However, the gentleman at the front desk was hospitable to offer my sons snack bags to go. This was a very nice touch. Plus, I grabbed a complimentary copy of the WSJ before heading out. All in all, this is not the closest LAX accommodation, but I would definitely stay here again.

Stayed there for 3 nights and I must agree with the majority of reviews that it should be the gold standard by which you measure the hotels in Hawthorne as far as services and features are concerned. From the shuttle driver to the maids they make you feel really important. The area as fine but I wouldnt venture out at night. It was walking distance to Ralphs, CVS, Payless, Walgreens, and scores of small ethnic restaurants. There's even a Catholic Church nearby which was the main reason I booked the hotel since I was staying for the weekends. If you need to go shopping just take the bus # 40 and it takes you right at the doorstep of a large Mall( South Bay?) where I did my Christmas shopping. Lastly the rooms were huge and clean. Definitely one of the best hotles/motels I have stayed in North America.
