“The good, the bad, the ugly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

I've been meaning to write this review for 2 years. The good news is that this is a trendy, funky, cute place in Guerneville convenient for touring the small organic farms in the area. The pool area is charming with guests bringing their pets and their bottles of wine out to the lawn to socialize. The rooms are spare but comfortable; some have fireplaces.
The bad news is that it is not up to luxury hotel service standards. The phone is not always answered and there isn't always someone at the reception desk.
Sometimes you have to wait.....
The ugly is that after checking out, while we were speeding down the freeway toward the airport I realized I'd left my watch in the room. I called the hotel. No answer. I kept calling and finally got an answer. I explained that I'd left my watch. They promised to check with the housekeeping staff (which was waiting outside our room when we walked out) and call me back. They called back and said a "sports watch" had been found that day. Unfortunately my watch was a Rolex; I never saw it again.

Room Tip: Nice place to bring your doggie.

“tranquil and chic gem in russian river area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

Stayed at boon for a romantic December weekend - it was off season so very quiet - perfect! The property is a motel-style setup with rooms circling a pool and hot tub. Our room (#14) - which I assume is similar to others in style - impeccably redone with extremely comfortable bed, fireplace, beautiful wood side table with supplies for sipping wine - also has a mini-fridge with honor bar. We could not have been more delighted.

Hot tub is open late so even in the chilly evenings are mornings we were able to go out and soak - robes and towels are provided. In the morning the staff brought a fantastic coffee press and homemade pastries to the room.

Located on Armstrong Woods road, about a mile up the road from Guerneville, and that suited us fine. It's a very short drive to town, and they have bicycles to loan (nice touch for during warmer seasons). There are spa services on the premises (massages); we did not use them on this trip. Also there is not 24-hour on-premises staff if that's important to you. We let them know when we were arriving at everything was set up for us so no complaints at all.

We'll definitely be back!

“Right attitude, right location”

We booked Boon through i-escape.com - a site we trust, so knew it would deliver and we got a great price, I believe, for a weekend booking.

Boon was just what we wanted: it's cool, but not pretentious, and has those little touches that you don't get in chain hotels. And Boon himself is one of the best dogs I have wrestled with in a long time!

Our booking got us a complimentary bottle of wine and an kind-of upgrade: we were given room 14 - a large room, but next to reception. The room is large because it caters for wheelchair visitors, but we asked to move because we wanted a carpet (it was a wet weekend). Room 2 was smaller, but just right for us, with a nice private deck. It is a old motel style set of buildings so be aware that you may have neighbours walking past your glass front door. Keep the curtains drawn!

The pool and hot tub are lovely; the honestly bar and self service breakfast in keeping with the laid back attitude; and the free bicycles are real hit - we took them off to Porter Bass winery which was a great, safe way to get around (and have a glass or two of wine).

Guerneville itself is a sweet town: there's a great coffee shop at the top of road; the Boon restaurant is fantastic, and Michael at the Big Bottom Market could not be more helpful - do pay him and that store/deli/winebar a visit.

If you're looking for character, design, ease and comfort, Boon is hard to beat.

Room Tip: The motel style means that you might get some foot traffic outside your room. If that really is goin...

“Stylish & Serene Wine Country Hideaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

Boon is a stylish, comfortable, and peaceful retreat that's just off the wine road. We celebrated our anniversary with four nights at the hotel. The rooms are simple and clean (think Swedish design). The grounds and landscaping have been perfectly updated. The pool and hot tub are great and stay open late. Breakfast is basic continental-style with locally roasted coffee.

The hotel is ideally located for a day-trip to the coast and within easy driving distance to Russian River wineries. It's about a 30 - 40 minute drive to Healdsburg and Dry Creek wineries. Guerneville is a bit of a funky little town but we quickly found some great spots including the Boon Restaurant and Big Bottom Market (for picnic supplies).

Ride the free Boon bikes (beware, they are a little rickety) into town for a homemade biscuit with fresh strawberries and cream at Big Bottom Market. Then ride back, past the hotel to visit the Armstrong Redwoods State Park. There are great hiking trails if you continue (by car) through the redwoods and up the road to Austin Creek State Park.

Room Tip: Select a room that's away from the main road.

“Boon is the Best!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

We stayed at the Boon Hotel for three nights in Sonoma. It was exactly as advertised but with some extras that we weren't expecting like the hot tub being open until midnight (yay!) and the Honour Bar!! Our room was simple but had everything we needed. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. We had a small 'private deck' that we didn't set foot on so perhaps an unnecessary extra. Breakfast was fantastic and different each day - I enjoyed a lovely coffee by the pool each morning before my run. We ate at the Boon Restaurant all three nights. Boring perhaps but each night we had an excellent meal. We used the bikes they had on loan each night.

Guerneville is a very cute town and is a much more relaxed, low-key alternative to Healdsburg. I would stay here again and recommend it to friends.
