There are three reasons to spend a night in Gilroy: (1) The annual Garlic festival; (2) the outlet mall and (3) it's between the place you were and the place you're going.
We spent a night here for (3) since we were finishing a trip down the California coast and were enroute to Sacramento from San Simeone. But one reason we picked Gilroy was (2). Why pay the higher rates of the San Francisco area when you can also probably find a shopping deal? (Which my wife and I both did.)
The property is conveniently located about two blocks from the outlet mall. The property has enough setback from the road so that light sleepers like me are not disturbed by traffic noise.
I liked that the lobby offers a popcorn cart and a Douwe Egberts coffee / espresso machine. I drank only the espresso and it was strong. (I don't consider Maxwell House, Folgers, et. al. to be "real" coffee.) There's also a lobby computer for those of us who do not take one on the road.
Our room had a flat panel TV, waist-high refrigerator and small microwave. If it matters, I think there's some softner in the water.
Breakfast was your standard Choice hotel fare: "you-make-'em" waffles, biscuits and gravy, 2 cereals, yogurt, danish/muffins/bread, orange and apple juice, assorted teas, and regular milk (only). If you want the espresso, you need to go to the lobby. (Maybe that's changed.) There's a special breakfast room (a converted room).
Overall, our stay had no problems and I'll stay here whenever I'm in Gilroy again.
