A very handy location for exploring Yosemite
Review of Cedar Lodge
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 19 Aug 2014
Cedar Lodge provides a great place from which to visit Yosemite. The rooms are large, with self-catering facilities. They are clean but basic, and rather scuffed so if you are looking for luxury this is not for you. The staff are great - friendly and helpful - and there is a grocery store on the premises. The restaurant is fine but seems to quickly reach capacity so it is better to get there early. The scenery around is amazing and more than compensates for any shortcomings.

We stayed here as it was the cheapest option to visit Yosemite without a shared bathroom. We didn't realise it was a "resort" until we got there, so we were impressed with the indoor and outdoor pools and arcade area.
The room was very spacious and had a nice lodgey aged feel about it. The sink sits outside the bathroom which was actually quite nice as there was plenty of countertop space and a large mirror.
The only major letdown is the food. We heard other guests complaining about this too. Although the hotel emphasizes that the ownership of the restaurants are separate, it is a huge factor in the overall stay/experience as a decent meal would be almost impossible without a car.
Choose the restaurant over the grill. The grill served really oily burgers (the bun itself was oily) and the fries had been sitting for a while. The restaurant had a salad bar, mains were average tasting and it was very expensive. The hotel do have a store selling drinks, candy, ice cream, snacks, bread, cereals and canned food.
It is about an hour bus ride to the popular parts of Yosemite (visitor centre & Yosemite lodge) which is a bit of a pain (& not ideal for an early hike without a car), but at least the yart buses are nice and run every hour or two.

This summer we took a family trip to Yosemite and stayed at the Cedar Lodge. It is a decent place to stay with children and close to the entrance near El Capitan. Ask for a room with a kitchen if you want to save a few dollars. The food on site is OK but the coffee is great at a little country store on your way into the park. There are two pools that are OK and the kids loved them...plus you can walk across the street and swim in the Merced. They are very busy in the summer so you have to remind them about things for your room coffee, towels, soap, etc. but they are very hospitable.

Room tip: Ask for a kitchen and a room in the back away from the noise in the summer.

It's the best location for people visiting Yosemite Park, only few minutes from the park entrance.

It's a little expensive and has no breakfast included, the one they offer it's not worth for the price. There's a gas station on the way to the park that has good options for a quick breakfast.

The rooms are very comfortable, bed was amazing!!!

River and beach just across the road were a huge bonus. We didn't use the pools at all as they were always packed with people and the river was beautiful to swim in. Lovely big rooms with good air con and kitchen facilities. Restaurant great for buffet breakfast but v disappointing for dinner. They'd run out of burgers by 7.30pm and the other options on the menu were expensive. Much better to eat next door in the bar/grill which was better value. We were glad we stayed here and did the 8 mile drive to the Yosemite Park gate entrance rather than staying at Yosemite View Lodge which didn't look nearly as good.

Room tip: Away from the outdoor pool would be best

We had two nights here and thought the whole experience was just great. The room was clean and huge with a queen size bed and whirlpool bath.
Food in the restaurant was a bit expensive but was lovely and the service from shawn was great. The dinner food was burgers n chicken etc but served up really quick. Overall we had a good stay.
