This is a long-overdue review -- but I was reminded to do it since we just booked a return visit.
I loved our retreat to Auberge on the Vineyard. We were the only guests, staying in the carriage house, which would be a wonderful space for a group, with a common space and wrap-around deck and plenty of views of the surrounding vineyards.
Roxanne was an amazing host and delighted us each morning with tales of the area and activity suggestions. She took note of our food preferences and whipped up delicious breakfasts every morning, with our particular tastes in mind. When we got back, we even served one of her recipes for brunch with friends -- they were very impressed. Thanks Roxanne!
Roxanne provided us with a great number of tasting passes and suggestions for vineyards to visit. When we mentioned that she had referred us, we often got an extra friendly welcome, so she is clearly well-connected and well-loved in the surrounding community.
In my opinion, the location is perfect for a wine country visit. It's far enough north of the hubbub of Napa and Sonoma that you avoid the commercialized (and over-priced) wine country experience. I would recommend Dry Creek Valley and Alexander Valley vineyards, where you will experience relaxed conversations with local wine makers and personalized (often complimentary) tastings.
Definitely will return (have already booked the room!).
