“Needs a little loving care”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2009

Owners were pretty grouchy, room was dark and needed a little sprucing up. Bathroom functional but worn. Huge kitchen given the size of the room overall. I like staying in non-chain motels and like quirky ones but this was just unloved, a little grubby and the fairly strong whiff of gas from the heating system meant it defnitely didn't get the thumbs up. Nice location - take a trip to Ayoobs department store which is just down the main street - it was great, very retro, staff were a little crazy but it was a great place. Seneca motel would benefit from a dose of TLC.

“Shabby out of date motel”

We stopped here are we needed a place to stay after a long drive, but if you can carry on just a few hundred yards down the road as there were places that looked better.
This motel is run down and very dated. All the furniture and flooring looks like it is straight out of the 1970's, and our room had the oldest fridge that I have ever seen. The bathroom was very basic indeed although was clean. The bed was not the best having very old springs. In it's favour the location was quiet, off the main road.

“minimally ok place to stay”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2008

i stayed here one night because my favorite motel in chester (the cedar lodge) was fully booked. this motel was minimally acceptable. it was on a quiet street off the highway and the room had a full kitchen: fridge, microwave, stove, kitchen sink, table and chairs. the room was generally clean but dreary, with old furniture and a dirty rug. the worst thing about the room was the thin walls. you can hear the conversation in the next room- the walls are paper thin. there was no ceiling fan and the fan in the room was broken. the owner had my reservation listed for the wrong date. she also had a very off-putting attitude. she acted like she was being imposed on when i checked in and she was very unfriendly. she needs to have an attitude adjustment or some training in courtesy.

  • Liked — the kitchen
  • Disliked — the owner's attitude and the paper-thin walls

“Shabby and Uncomfortable”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2006

This motel does not meet basic standards. The rate was $65 (plus tax), which is highway robbery for a place that is so rundown. It's the kind of place you'd expect to get for about $30 a night.

The carpeting was threadbare and loose (a hazard).
The floor under the toilet was rotting.
The flooring in the bathroom was covered with cigarette burns.
The mattress was saggy and squeaky (so soft that I got no sleep at all that night).
There was a hideous heating vent that looked like it must have caught on fire at some point--there was a black scorch mark all the way up it (probably a fire hazard/building code violation).
No air conditioning, just a fan.
No fridge and they wouldn't give me the TV remote until after they'd processed my credit card.
The furniture was all second hand and looked like it had been scratched up with a hunting knife.
The headboard was covered with woodgrain contact paper that was peeling away.

In short, just about everything in the motel should have been replaced decades ago.

In addition, the owner/manager was surly. When I asked to see a room, she acted like I'd made some kind of unreasonable request. Before I had had a good chance to look around (less than a minute) she poked her head in the room and demanded to know if I wanted the room. I took it only because I hadn't had a chance to see how bad the bathroom was and because I didn't want to have to drive another hour to the next town. I definitely regret that decision.
