“Loved this hotel overlooking the Paro valley”

The kindest staff work at the Gangtey Palace. We had a lovely two night stay in one of the coziest rooms ever. Our room was warmed by old rugs, hot water bottles for our bed and was very comfy. Meals were all good and the staff bent over backwards to please you at every turn. The hotel overlooks the Paro valley, just minutes from the airport but don't worry, very few planes go in and out of Paro. Don't miss the small temple in the top of the tower cared for by a wonderful family who live right next store to the hotel. Definitely a wonderful place to stay.

“Wonderful introduction to Bhutam”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

This is a very nice and atmospheric place to stay in Paro. The hotel is perched high above the town with commanding views of the Dzong and the valley below. Rooms are large and traditional with much colour and squeaky floorboards, so don't expect an anodyne international standard. Food and service (including hot water bottles in winter) were both very good. The hot stone bath is a must. Enjoy.

“Lovely hotel in paro”

We were booked into Gangtey Palace with our terrific tour company - Lhomen Tours. Fell in love with it!
The architecture is fabulous - especially as it was our introduction to Bhutan. The staff are very nice - the rooms are great - up a small staircase to our huge room overlooking the valley. Spotlessly clean, hot hot water - it was cold in the evening - and we enjoyed our meals - especially adding the local hot pepper dish.
You can walk into town.
A great first night in Bhutan.

“Beautiful hotel, great views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

We booked two rooms for a night at Paro. The hotel is very beautiful and gives a chance to live in a traditional Bhutanese place with all modern amenities. The property offers great views of the Paro valley and is well spread unlike many smaller hotels in Paro. This was my 3rd visit to Paro but had the best experience.

The rooms and bathrooms were very spacious. The food was also good. But we had a really bad experience with one of the hotel staff literally asking us to vacate the room before check out time. They checkout time is 12 noon and we had planned to go to Taktsang early in the morning and checkout after coming back. While leaving for Taktsang, the manager at the reception told us that we will have to vacate the room by 9 a.m. as they have other guests coming.

We explained him that if a new guest is coming, he is supposed to wait till check in time rather than him asking us to leave early. We had to cancel our trip to Taktsang and start packing our stuff. So while the hotel was beautiful and the staff courteous, the behavior of this one person spoiled our trip.

Room Tip: Choose a room facing the valley

“Must try harder”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

This was our first impression of hotels in Bhutan and we were charmed by the courtyard setting and painted features of this historic building and intrigued by its richly decorated altar room.
Although we stayed in a standard bedroom, it had a small sitting area, the space heater was efficient and the bathroom more than adequate with plentiful hot water.
It was too cold to sit on the terrace with its glorious views, and the bar was less then cosy, as they only light the stove if they have enough custom to warrant it, and sitting up against a small electric heater in an airy space isn't for everyone.
The big disappointment was the food, both in quantity and variety. Although the restaurant staff were charming and helpful and our expectations were not high, the buffet gave the impression that it was the minimum the management could get away with, which was a great pity, as I felt it let down what could be a wonderful hotel.
