We stayed with another couple and would highly recommend the two-bedroom villa if you are staying with friends or family- the large living room has awesome views of the Paro valley and the mountains around, a private massage room, a hot stone bathtub, a verandah where you can have a private bonfire, large bathrooms with a separate shower, bathtub and walk in closet attached to each bedroom and a very well appointed kitchen where you could cook if you wanted to (helpful for families with babies/ young children). Oh, and there is also a complimentary bottle of wine. We were in love with it as soon as we walked in - the villa was so comfy that we had dinner served in the villa itself for most of the nights… though the bar and restaurant is very nice as well (especially for breakfast and lunch – given the lovely view of the greenery).
The hotel has a beautiful building with minimalist architecture, spa rooms with awesome views, a super heated indoor pool, and sprawling grounds… but all that aside, what really blew us away was the service – everyone was so polite and friendly and seemed to put in an extra effort to make our stay special.
Each villa comes with a butler… Kamal, our butler was very helpful and thoughtful – from offering suggestions on delightful dishes (not on the menu) that the chef could make for us, to cleaning (without being asked) our mud caked hiking shoes, to having the bukhari (a Bhutanese fireplace) burning and hot tea and samosas ready & waiting for us when we came back from our long and tiring Tiger’s Nest hike. Nothing seemed too much to ask for.
Our guide, Singay was patient, friendly and enthusiastic… helping us plan our itineraries…encouraging us as we did the difficult trek up to Tiger’s nest and even carrying our jackets to lighten our load… helping click awesome candid photographs as we childishly played in the snow at the Chele La pass. He gave us lot of interesting info about the Bhutan, Buddhism, the sites we visited, etc.
I should mention the food… the printed menu is not very extensive, but the chef accommodates special requests (on advance notice)…. They custom-made a Chinese meal for dinner one night at our request, which was very good. Every day for breakfast – they made us Indian delicacies on request – potato parathas, puris and potatoes, and chola baturas. Finger-licking good!
In one sentence – I would rate this amongst our top hotel experiences ever, and would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Bhutan.
