Like most of the hotels in Bhutan, the Samdencholing Hotel is OK but badly in need of repair. The rooms are old, the bathrooms only barely functional (you had to sit in the bathtub to use the shower), and the food is so-so. The one thing it has going for it is the view from the terrace and the friendliness of the staff. The second day when we came back from our tour, the smell from somewhere in the building was so bad in the hall that we backed out of the building and called for help. Windows were opened, a fan brought in, and a couple of hours later, it was sort of OK. No explanation. Bhutan is an expensive country where you pay a lot of money but have no control over where you stay. No matter what you ask for or are told when you book your tour, the tour agent makes the decisions and there is no recourse. We loved the country but it is sadly overpriced.
