“Stinks of Sewerage”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2010

We stayed here on the first night and last two nights of our 7-day Bhutan trip.

The bedroom is very large with two queen size beds.

There is a small TV which is too small really, for the size of the room and the reception is not great.

Worst of all, all the rooms stink of sewerage. However, I do have a sensitive nose, and a couple of my friends don't find it too disturbing but I just couldn't sleep as I felt that everytime I breath, I'm breathing in bacterial infected air!

The wall heater is not sufficient and my friend only found out of the additional small heater in the cupboard on the last day as we were checking out! With just the wall heater, it is rather freezing.

There was also some bugs in the room and the carpet in most rooms are stained.

The food was quite nice.

This is more of a 2* hotel than the advertised 3* but then again, this is Bhutan.

“No frills, but adequate”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2009

I stayed here while doing a 9-day Bhutan trek. The resort is somewhat high up in the Paro hills, off of a VERY rough (nearly impassable) road. The hotel is small and quaint; more of a lodge than anything else. The bedrooms were quite big. The bathroom was also fairly large, though poorly lit, so it felt a little dank. The main building had a computer with internet access. The staff was friendly and efficient. If you're in Paro, but don't want to stay in city, I'd recommend this place.

“Clean and quiet”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 March 2009

We were there 2 nights at the beginning and 2 nights at the end of the trip.
It is out of Paro, which can be good or bad. It is quiet. No barking dogs or traffic noise, but you are stuck out in the sticks, which is bad if you like to be able to walk to town to explore. The surrounding area was not very attractive.
We were almost the only clients there. Service was great. Food was decent and way more than adequate in terms of quantity, but we didn't eat there much.
We were given cottage 102. Huge room, with 2 beds. Electric heaters, plus 3 extra comforters. It was cold at night. Cable TV. Bathroom was nice, and all bathroom facilities worked well. Typical overhead electric hot water heater, but it was fine for the 2 of us.
They are building a "conference center," so there is noise during the day, which was only a problem on our arrival day, when we really needed some rest. But we carry a portable white noise machine, so that helped.
They screwed up a wake up call, and woke us up too early, but they were so nice that it didn't matter much.
Rock hard beds, like all over Bhutan.
I did see a computer but I didn't use it so don't know anything about it.

“Good hotel for first or last night in Bhutan”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2009

Quiet location. Good for a first night: no dogs heard
Large ground floor rooms in cottages are best. Great for sorting out kit pre or post trek
Good hot water
Good hotel if you want to organize your own private dance display and welcome party.
Excellent service

“Showing its age but in a good position”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2008

This hotel is situated about half way down the road through the Paro Valley from Paro itself to Takktshang Goemba (Tigers Nest) and is about 3 miles from the car park at the foot of the climb.
It is about 500m up an unmade road & consists of a main block with restaurant and lounge with rooms above and two further two storey buildings,in traditional style, with further bedrooms.
From tables set for dinner it would appear to accommodate about 70 guests, mostly large tours of 20+

The bedrooms are showing their age with worn furniture and antiquated power points with multiple extra plugs and old fan heaters (needed).
TV but no tea/coffee facilities.
Beds have duvets and blankets which are needed in the cold evenings/nights/mornings!
Bathrooms are dim and small with individual water heater/storage and the power point for this is in direct line to the shower head!
Health & Safety Exec.would have a fit!
Hot water in our room was plentiful but brown.

Food in restaurant was typical Bhutan tourist buffet but hot and plentiful and the bar service was cheerful and efficient.
Lounge was cold and cheerless so most guests had an early night as there is no where to go to as you are out in the wilds.
Breakfast again a buffet with eggs on request.
Staff are friendly and willing.

The establishment needs a full refurb to meet the needs of the modern traveller but in the meantime you can forgive most of the shortfalls because of its location so near to the fabulous Tigers Nest.

  • Liked — Cheerful and helpful restaurant staff.
  • Disliked — Cold,cold,cheerless bedrooms and bathrooms
