Arrived at hotel and no one was at the front desk for about 15 minutes. When agent arrived, I was told that my penthouse (two rooms) was not available and I was going to be given two studio rooms instead. As a Gold Marriott member, I challenged their giving away my room, and advised that I have two children and couldn't take two rooms. I was then given a penthouse room (which apparently was available), yet the room reeked of stale tobacco. There was a note on the table stating that all water was going to be shut off that night/morning. When I challenged the clerk regarding shutting down water in an occupied room overnight, I was told "sorry". I was later called and told that the information was mistaken. Although I like to stay at Residence Inn's with the family (due to privacy, free breakfast, etc.), and they are typically enjoyable, this one is a joke.

The good: The room was fine, if not slightly dated. A hot breakfast was served every morning and the staff seemed to go out of their way to greet me in the morning.

The bad: Long term tenants seem to have taken over the complex (and I mean long term like otherwise-they'd-be-homeless long term). Laundry is hanging from the balconies to dry and residents throw loud parties at the grill near the front office. I never felt unsafe, but the whole vibe of the hotel feels like a down-market neighborhood apartment complex. If you are looking for a comfortable place to stay for a long term this may fit the bill, but business travelers keep looking.

We have stayed there for two summers now (both at least 10 night stays) and have nothing but great things to say about this property. The staff has alwyas been accomodating, the breakfast and manager's receptions are always great and we have had no problems with our penthouse rooms. To me the location is ideal for San Jose, you can get anywhere in minutes. Don't know what these other reviews are talking about.

I wouldn't stay here again for business or pleasure. The area was not very nice, there were 'long-term' guests that seemed a bit suspicious and the guest registration office was hard to find. I arrived in a taxi at night and we had to make a U-turn in the back of the complex because the front area was not easy to find. S C A R Y.
