“Not bad... but not great either”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2007

My wife and I stayed here for five nights in mid-December. We booked one of their "Penthouse" suites, which consisted of a first level (which started on the second floor) living room, dining room (w/ Murphy bed), bathroom, full kitchen, and a second-level bedroom and bathroom.

Overall amenities were fine for an extended-stay hotel with a couple exceptions:
- the master bed was a (very small) queen or (maybe even) a full that was extremely soft and springy. I expected better from a Marriott property
- TVs were annoyingly small
- parking lot was (as noted in another review) extremely small and cramped

Breakfast was good, the staff friendly and efficient. The furniture/
decor could use updating. Shower head pressure was about a 5 out of 10. Very quiet at night in a decent neighborhood.

We've been in better, we've been in worse.

“Okay, but not great.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2007

What we liked:
* Full kitchen with large refrigerator (found at all Residence Inns.)
* Very comfortable pillow-top mattress.
* Very quiet hotel, although the refrigerator was loud enough to serve as white noise.
* My partner thought the breakfast buffet had a good selection and good tasting food. It included fruit, breakfast potatoes, eggs and sausage.
* Good water pressure in shower.

So-So:
* While the room and bathroom were by no means dirty, there were a few missed spots here and there.

What we didn't like:
* Hotel office difficult to find at night.
* Parking lot was very tight and difficult to maneuver into parking spaces. One of the most difficult hotel parking lots I've had to deal with.
* A cockroach ran across the kitchen table in broad daylight.
* Tiny bathroom for a Residence Inn

  • Liked — Very comfortable bed, and near a Whole Foods Market
  • Disliked — Difficult to maneuver in parking lot, cockroaches

“Threat to guest ignored by hotel staff”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 April 2007

While we have previously not had any problems and re-booked several times, we will no longer do so and do not recommend this location, unless the hotel addresses the issue.

One of our managers stayed there and was threatened by another guest. The hotel refused to call the police because the other guest was a frequent customer, and then hassled our manager when he asked to be moved to another room. We find this unacceptable and dangerous.

On the positive end, if one is willing to submit themselves to scary frequent guest, the rooms are set up nicely and the facility is clean and conveniently located.

  • Liked — Clean rooms, convenient location
  • Disliked — Frequent guest threatens other guests, staff not willing to call police or relocate

“Some problems”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 March 2007

The hotel has the exact feel of garden apartments (i.e. no interior corridors; individual unit entrances on first or second floor) in a slightly rundown neighborhood. The front desk area was a little hard to find at night (not obvious where it is from the parking lot). The front desk area and breakfast room seemed a little small.

Room is fine except:
- Desk has two outlets near it, one for the lamp and one for the high speed connection. Therefore, I had to unplug the lamp in order to plug in my computer and work at the desk. The nearest other outlet is next to the fireplace. If I plug my computer in there, and try to work from the sofa, the high speed cable doesn't reach far enough...
- Can easily hear footsteps upstairs
- No trash can at desk or in bathroom. Only one is under the sink.

Otherwise, room is fine.

“Very nice room, but several bad problems”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2007
2

Disappointed upon arrival as AAA book said interior/exterior corridors--but NO interior corridors here, just the typical Residence Inn condo/apartment style outside entrances.

Room was very nice--good quiet heat, fully-stocked full kitchen, 25+ channel TV, comfortable bed, free microwave popcorn in with coffee supplies. Looked like a decent area of town. A lot of choice in free breakfast buffet including scrambled eggs and potatoes. The breakfast room was quite cold though.

Problem #1--at the end of the second morning shower (and not long ones either) there was virtually NO hot water left. Front desk just shrugged their shoulders and said "sorry".

Problem #2--when you sign in, you must sign a "no party" pledge. Well, a room not far from us had 14 people having a party and it took several different rooms to call the front desk to get it stopped. It took the manager over an hour to get everyone out of the room; she was negotiating with them instead of throwing them out after they violated their "no party" agreement. Loud screaming between patrons (not me) and the manager and the party-people. And all this happened between 11 PM and midnight, when people are trying to get to sleep.

Maybe I just caught it on a bad night, but the front desk people on all shifts were ineffective and lackadaisical, but the room itself was quite nice except for the lack of hot water.

This "no party" sheet to sign must be something that happens in Bay Area hotels as this is the second different chain that I've had to sign this "no party" sheet upon arrival within the past several months, so beware. And being over 55 I'm not looked at to be a "party animal", so everyone must sign on arrival.

  • Liked — thr room itself
  • Disliked — front desk ineffectiveness
  • Tips/Secrets — nice place to stay if you can avoid parties and take VERY quick showers
