Decided to spend two weeks touring around the North-West of Scotland, and was blessed by near-perfect weather. Spent two nights in Lochinver, and opted for the Ardglas GH. As the only single room was booked, I was stung by the usual "Single Occupancy" surcharge. (A personal bugbear, I will admit.) After several superb B+B's elsewhere, Ardglas brought me back down to earth.
The Ardglas Guest House was a bit of a disappointment, and may have been a 1970's-themed kitsch project. The bedroom was recently redecorated, but still retained the old aquamarine sink from the 70's. The (not en-suite) bathroom and shower rooms similarly retained their lemon-hued fittings, and the shower retained it's 1970's era mold! Generally, the cleaning did need a bit more attention (the in-room kettle was unfit for use.) However, the bed and bedding was excellent, and I had an amazing nights sleep, despite the noises thru' the thin walls.
Breakfast was so-so. Wonky cafetière and a cooked breakfast that seems to have been cooked earlier, and kept warm until required. Adequate I suppose. On the other hand, the view from the dining room / lounge was excellent, with a great view over the waterfront.
Overall, it was OK for the price, but is basically in need attention to detail. (Simple things - e.g. a double room with only one chair?)
