“A hilltop renovated castle with wonderful views over the town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

A typical Parador comprising a modern conversion of a castle perched above the town of Tortosa. The room was spacious and comfortable but at this time of year the hotel was relatively quiet. As a result the dining room appeared quiet and cavernous, with almost as many staff as diners. Breakfast was the usual impressive Parador spread and much better value than the dinner. Staff were courteous and generally helpful.

“Lovely view overlooking Tortosa”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2011

The hotel is placed in a commanding position over looking Tortosa, with a relatively short walk into the town. Large room well appointed. Breakfast was buffet style, with a large range of good food, eggs and coffee made to order.

Only downside is that internet signal didn't reach the room, but could sit in the lounge with a beer and use it, which was the upside.

“Great setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

Lovely setting but a tad isolated from the town. Great rooms and sevice. The restaurant is overpriced and mediocre. Internet in the rooms would be nice.

“Think again ..”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

We were very much looking forward to the parador experience and chose the Parador de Tortosa as it seemed like a good place to start. We live a few miles away from Doncaster airport and they fly directly to Reus, about an hour and a half drive away from the parador. The parador was quite difficult to find once we were in the town of Tortosa due to road works, signage etc. However once we were there we were awestruck by its location on top of a hill and inside, it didn't disappoint. Beautifully restored, clean and the staff were very friendly. The big down side for us was the evening meal. The dinining room is magnificent, the description within the menu explained the history behind the food being served, but when it arrived it was very basic, little of it but a big bill at the end. Breakfast however was excellent, so much choice and the smaller dining room it was served in was delightful.

Tortosa town itself has nothing to offer apart from the magnificent cathedral and a railway station that runs the length of the coastal resorts, which obviously includes Barcelona.

We also booked to stay for 5 days at this parador which was our mistake, we could have stayed at Benicarlo and enjoyed the lovely beach which is very near instead of travelling all the way to it from Tortosa. Valencia is also very close to this parador.

We finished our week's holiday however at the parador Alcaniz, not too far from Tortosa but up in the hills. Again a beautifully restored monastary, very clean but food disappointing again.

What I suggest to anyone wanting to experience a parador is to do as much research as possible. In retrospect we stayed in one parador too long and that is not what the experience should be.

“Superb Parador in a hill top location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2011

The road up is narrow and steep and when you get to the top you are greeted to the sight of a lovely building surrounded by the City walls, get out of the car and the views are just great. The bedrooms in the parador are in a modern extension but blend perfectly with the old side of the building where all the main rooms are. The dining room is particulary impressive as is the food, we had an excellent evening meal there. Breakfast was also excellent. Our room was in keeping with the period of the building and was spacious, comfortable and immaculatly clean. Terrific balcony with excellent views. I highly reccomend this Parador.
