“Good, location, room and breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

As others have said, location excellent if you don't have any private transport. Rooms are spotless, traditional and everything worked. The hotel is run well, and the breakfast has lovely fresh pastries. Don't go if you are looking for quick 'fast food' type experience. The waiter has been there for years, he is very formal and his english is limited so can make him sound a little crusty, but if you want a good location, good room and real traditional decor this is definately for you and it is excellent value.

“A delightful end-of-season experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2011

Tucked away in a quiet side street just fifty metres from the station exit, and a few minutes walk from the town square, the location could hardly be better, particularly if you are not using a car. We were staying right at the end of the season and there was only one other guest, so our impressions may not be typical of the high season. But we loved it! This is a charming and unpretentious hotel, lacking some amenities such as lifts, televisions and big public rooms, but beautifully maintained right from the pretty entrance courtyard to the large traditionally furnished dining room and our spotless rear bedroom with views out to the mountains. The hotel owner was friendly and helpful throughout, courteous rather than chummy, and she speaks excellent English! Notwithstanding the reputation of its restaurant we were initally doubtful about eating alone in the large dining room, but were very glad that we decided to give it a try on our first day . What it lacked in atmosphere was more than compensated by the excellence of the food: a simple 'menu de jour' comprising beautifully cooked local dishes. Whilst most of the tourist bar-restaurants in the main square offer decent enough food, with the bonus of atmospheric outdoor dining, the hotel restaurant was in a different league. But if fine food is important to your holiday do try the C'an Boqueta off the Placa America which has been open for a year and has achieved such a reputation that we had to book two days in advance even at the end of the season.

“Location, location, location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2011

We arrived via the Soller antique train, and there was the hotel, right next door. Treatment was excellent, rooms clean and basic, restaurant food was superb. Service can be a little old fashioned, and , no, there is no elevator. But if you want to be near the tram, the square, great sights and shopping, this place has it all.

“One of the worst hotel experiences ever”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

I have never had such a scandalously rude and unwelcoming reception in a hotel, and so I feel compelled to write this review. We had a late flight and arrived at El Guia at 9:30 pm on a Friday, as agreed with the hotel owner. By email she had said it was no problem for us to eat dinner in their restaurant upon arrival. We walked in the front door at the agreed time, and without a hello or a welcome, the owner asked us why we had so much luggage if we were staying only one night (we had one large suitcase, one carry-on, and a stroller for a couple and a two-year old). We were promptly informed that there would be no one to help us carry our luggage up to our top-floor room and that we would have to do it ourselves. Ok. Then we were told that we needed to come straight to the dining room (without going to our room first to wash up) as it was late, and we were hustled off to dinner. I asked if we could at least wash our hands in the downstairs washroom, and fortunately we were granted that. Service in the restaurant was unsmiling and atrocious - most of the items on the menu were not available, we were commanded to eat such and such, and we were rushed through our meal (and with a two-year old, we are not in any case inclined to linger, but this was too much). As we were getting settled to go to sleep, we by accident broke a glass and my husband went to ask for a broom to clean it up. The hotel owner exploded, screamed at us, insisted on coming up to clean it while reprimanding us horribly the entire time, and when we complained about this treatment, told us that this was her house and that we should leave and go stay somewhere else (this at 11 pm at night, with a small child, when we were paying nearly 100 euros for the room). We were flabbergasted. And to top it all off, our room gave onto a courtyard where the neighbors played loud music until the early hours of the morning. What an awful start to a holiday. Unbelievable that an establishment like this continues to exist. We asked around and heard that others have had bad experiences with this place. Yes, the place is pretty and has a good location - but the owners have never heard the word hospitality. If you choose to stay here, you've been warned.

“Loved every minute of it - a holiday highlight”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2011

Lovely little hotel with a restaurant just tucked up a side street near to the train station in Soller - we decided we'd go for a meal after my boyfriend read about it in one of the Soller town guides.

Very quaint, felt a little like we were stepping back in time but boy, what a welcome. We were greeted by a very friendly lady and led into a lovely cool dining room. Two very attentive waiters looked after our every need - one was sporting a white tuxedo (very nice :) ) and both had excellent knowledge of the menu and local produce. They did a great job at recommending some wonderful dishes - i had the gazpacho followed by john dorey fillet and orange sorbet. We also enjoyed the local red wine Binasalem, which was incredibly drinkable.

Meal cost about €110 for two which wasn't cheap but was well worth the money - lovely food, cooked and presented well in comfortable surroundings by warm friendly people. What more could you ask.
