“Worth considering - But not not the best value for your money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

I have been a loyal customer of the Movinpick group. It is a well estblashid chain with an exceptional eye for detail. The Petra hotel was no different. But it was, by all measures, an expensive stay. The room was spacious and neat as a pin. Room service was on par with other hotel in this category. Breakfast was typical of the Movinpick brand - elaborate with a good mix of items.. The breakfast tables were a dissapointment. They were bland and with limited to no decorations. If one enjoyed the beautiful lounge area just outside the breakfast room and compare that to the breakfast room, it is as if you are in a different and lesser hotel! We found this dissapointmenting.

On our second night we had dinner at one of the restaurants in the hotel. The bill (2 guests) for an entree, main course and a bottle of wine was US 150! On the last night we had dinner in our room. We only had the main course with a bottle of wine and the bill was US 100!
This demonstrates how expensive the hotel is.

The staff at the reception desk that I interfaced with on arrival and departure had a poor command of English. The other members of staff that we inerfaced with were friendly and helpfull.
Although the bed was comfortable the pillows leaves much to be desired.
The hotel is well located for a visit to Petra

“Loved this hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

What a great hotel, just outside the entrance to Petra. Great staff, great food, and a super room. I felt very comfortable staying there as a single woman!

“Did not stay here but what a great experience in their restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

The family did not stay here but paid a visit as we were in search of a drink after spending a long and energetic day hiking around Petra.

This hotels is one of the few places were you will find alcohol. It is consequently very expensive, you are looking at around $10 for a beer, but the service we received was exceptional.

We had a couple of most enjoyable cocktails in the bar and then decided to eat. The quality of both was very good and the service very attentive without being intrusive.

Our children in the meantime had eaten their dinner and then, following all their exertions, fallen asleep on the sofa. Within a couple of minutes on of the staff appeared with a couple of padded blankets and put one over each child to ensure they were warm (it's cold in January) and comfortable.

Talk about exceeding expectations.

“Consistently good”

We stayed at Moevenpick Resort Petra 12 years ago and wondered how it will be. While the surroundings have changed, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the hotel is still the same beautiful, convenient one that we visited years ago. The level of service is still the same. Breakfast was good; we had tea and snacks at the lobby and did not really pay too much, considering how expensive Jordan has become.

We had such a pleasant stay. Wish they had a heated pool, though. It would have been perfect.

There are now lots of restaurants in the area but I just had the worst Jordanian food ever from Sandstone Restaurant, a couple of doors down the street. Not only was it expensive, the food was horrible - soggy french fries, watery lentil soup, lamb chops made out of bones and grizzle. Gross!

“right at the Petra entrance”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

The Movenpick is 2 minutes away from the ticket office to Petra, the most spectacular ancient. City in Jordan. It is a beautiful hotel with well trained staff who are ready to help in whatever way is needed. We had left the 'do not disturb ' sign on our door by mistake, so when we arrived tired after a long day in Petra, only to discover our messy room, we asked for them to make up the room. They said Of course, when do you want them to come? The hotel has two wonderful buffets, for breakfast and dinner. Both were exceptional - the food variety and quality (especially the salads and deserts) were simply great. The hotel has a lovely pool but winter in Jordan did not encourage use. Neither did we find time to use the health club - not after 9 hours of walking and climbing.

Room Tip: The rooms were well insulated. I suspect there are no bad rooms.
