“long and winding road..................”

well , not that long. a mile i think but seems much less. rather like window shopping on a long street you are so engrossed in surroundings and what is going on around you it seems no time at all when you finally get that magical glimpse of the treasury at the end.
the walk is downhill on the way in, so coming back is tougher. we came back at around 4.30 and had the siq to ourselves. never did i think it would get so quiet. made up for trekking down with a pack we tried to lose.
the carriages are driven thru at a fast pace , drivers seem to love their job!

As-Siq is one of those phenomenon you simple must experience for yourself. I wish I would have had more time, as I enjoyed As-Siq as much (or possibly more) than the city of Petra itself.

“Beautiful walk into Petra via the Siq”

The Siq is the start of beautiful Petra, but be sure to allow yourself several days! The Siq is 2 kilometers long with plenty to see and it ends up at the treasury. From there Petra unfolds!

“a dramatic entry into a hidden cuty”

The Siq is a mysterious natural "driveway " that guards the entrance to Petra. An easy walk downhill (going) and slightly more challenging return, one has to stop often to admire the beautiful natural rock patterns and man made technological creations of dams and waterways from the third century. BC.

Go and see it now. There's hardly anyone there. You'll be safe amongst some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet.
